This week's game launches on PC, PS5, Xbox: September 2026 (Week 39)

The gaming calendar has apparently decided that September isn't allowed to calm down. This week brings a particularly eclectic collection of new releases, ranging from supernatural nightmares and apocalyptic fantasy warfare to farming camps, bizarre puzzle worlds and, naturally, Garfield trying to escape Monday.

The real heavy hitters are CONTROL Resonant, SILENT HILL: Townfall, and Total War: WARHAMMER III – Lords of the End Times, which arrive within the same frantic 48-hour period. But before the big guns start firing, there's plenty happening elsewhere.

September 21 -27 releases

Graveyard Keeper 2 has the business opportunity you've been waiting for, if you ever dreamed of managing a graveyard, it is. On September 22, the sequel returns to Lazy Bear Games' wonderfully morbid world, where running a cemetery is only the beginning. Players can build, craft, explore, manage resources and interact with the strange inhabitants of a medieval settlement, all while finding increasingly creative ways to make the most of the dead. Because apparently even the afterlife needs someone to worry about logistics.

On September 23, Nomori offers a much more dreamlike adventure. Its world is built around puzzles that aren't particularly interested in following the laws of physics. Players can manipulate space, gravity and time to navigate its environments and overcome obstacles. Rather than simply following a predetermined path, Nomori encourages experimentation, allowing players to discover how its unusual mechanics can be combined to solve its challenges. It's colorful, strange and seemingly determined to make you question which way is actually "up."

Also on the same day, things take a considerably darker turn with Qliphah in Providence's Shadow. Set in a devastated Tokyo transformed by supernatural mutations, the game follows Souma Hoshigami, a delivery worker whose encounter with an Aberration turns his ordinary life upside down. Souma becomes entangled with the Tokyo Public Safety Mutation Response Division and a world where the boundary between human and monster has become increasingly difficult to define. The result is an action-driven supernatural adventure wrapped in a bleak, mysterious setting. If your definition of a relaxing Wednesday involves mutated creatures and existential dread, this one has you covered.

Then, on September 24, comes one of the week's biggest releases: SILENT HILL: Townfall. The latest entry in KONAMI's legendary horror franchise takes players to St. Amelia, a remote island shrouded in fog and filled with secrets. Instead of returning to the familiar streets of Silent Hill, the game introduces a completely new location and protagonist in Simon Ordell, whose investigation quickly turns into something much more disturbing.

Developed by Screen Burn Interactive, Townfall uses a first-person perspective and combines exploration, combat and puzzles as players attempt to uncover what happened on the island. Simon also has an unusual tool at his disposal: a portable CRTV television that plays a mysterious role in his investigation.

Meanwhile, somewhere far away from foggy islands and supernatural mysteries, the Warhammer world is preparing for the apocalypse. Again. Total War: WARHAMMER III – Lords of the End Times brings four major Legendary Lords into the strategy battlefield: Thanquol, Boris Todbringer, the Glottkin and Nagash. They arrive alongside eight Legendary Heroes, 23 Battle Units and 12 Regiments of Renown, giving players plenty of new toys with which to make the Old World considerably less peaceful.

The expansion is accompanied by a substantial free update, which adds Neferata as a new Legendary Lord and gives the Vampire Counts a major overhaul. New endgame challenges, including Chaos Invasions, Vermintides and Nagash Rises, are also designed to make late-game campaigns considerably more chaotic.

And there's a particularly interesting bonus for newcomers: purchasing Lords of the End Times provides access to Immortal Empires, opening up the enormous combined campaign without requiring ownership of another Total War: WARHAMMER game. 

In other words, the End Times have arrived. Please bring snacks.

But if there is one release this week capable of making reality itself feel slightly unreliable, it's CONTROL Resonant. Remedy Entertainment's supernatural action series returns with Dylan Faden stepping into the spotlight. Jesse Faden's brother takes center stage as a new paranatural crisis spreads beyond the Oldest House and into a distorted version of Manhattan.

The sequel isn't simply bringing more CONTROL. Remedy is also changing the way the action works. Dylan's signature weapon, the Aberrant, can transform and plays a central role in a combat system that puts greater emphasis on close-range encounters. Players will still have plenty of supernatural abilities at their disposal, but the overall experience is designed around a more aggressive and physical style of combat. The change of setting is equally important. Instead of being confined to the Oldest House, players will explore a warped Manhattan filled with strange locations and reality-defying phenomena. If the original game taught us anything, it's that normal architecture is apparently optional in the CONTROL universe.

Remedy is also giving players more control over the difficulty through an expanded Assist Mode, allowing individual aspects of the experience to be adjusted rather than forcing everyone into a single difficulty setting. With a new protagonist, new combat mechanics and a much broader setting, CONTROL Resonant takes the strange, paranormal DNA of the original and throws it into a considerably bigger playground.

After all that existential horror and apocalyptic warfare, Garfield has a simpler problem: Monday. 

In Garfield – Escape from Monday, the lasagna-loving cat finds himself trapped inside a bizarre dream after eating spinach lasagna. His mission is simple: escape the nightmare and get back to what really matters. The game is a colorful 3D platforming adventure featuring multiple worlds, enemies, collectibles and costumes that grant Garfield different abilities. Familiar faces from the Garfield universe also make appearances along the way. It's difficult to imagine a more Garfield-esque motivation for saving the day than simply refusing to accept the existence of Monday.

Finally, Farming Camp closes the list of releases on September 24 and provides a peaceful escape from mutated monsters, eldritch mysteries and armies marching toward the End Times. This farming adventure follows young Alessandra as she works alongside two other aspiring farmers. Players can grow crops, care for animals, complete camp activities and participate in a competition to determine which team can become the best farmers. There are also various minigames and social activities to break up the agricultural routine. So, if watching a fictional world collapse isn't quite your idea of entertainment, there is always the option of watering some crops instead.

September ends with a bang

This week's release schedule is concentrated in just a few days. However, September 24 is the real blockbuster day. CONTROL Resonant expands Remedy's supernatural universe with Dylan Faden and a warped Manhattan, SILENT HILL: Townfall delivers a new psychological horror story on the mysterious island of St. Amelia, and Lords of the End Times brings a huge amount of new content to Total War: WARHAMMER III. And if none of those sound appealing, there's always Garfield. He has a very important appointment with Monday.
