Ghost Recon Wildlands Gets Massive Last Rites Anniversary Update

Nine years after its original release, Ghost Recon Wildlands is heading back into the spotlight. To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon franchise, Ubisoft has launched Last Rites, a free content update that does much more than add another mission. Alongside fresh story content, the tactical shooter has received a sweeping technical overhaul for modern platforms, breathing new life into one of the series' most beloved entries.

The headline addition is Last Rites, a brand-new narrative adventure that sends Nomad and the Ghosts back into the wilds of Bolivia to confront a mysterious threat known as La Llorona. Far from being a straightforward villain, La Llorona is portrayed as a deeply layered antagonist driven by both redemption and revenge, leading the fanatical cult Los Penitentes. Ubisoft says the mission gradually transforms into something far more unsettling than it initially appears, with players uncovering disturbing secrets as they push deeper into hostile territory.

This isn't just another firefight, either. The new operation has been designed to keep even veteran Ghosts on edge. Low visibility, unforgiving terrain, limited support, and new gameplay mechanics force players to rely on stealth, teamwork, and careful planning instead of overwhelming firepower. It's a deliberate return to the tactical roots that made Wildlands a fan favorite in the first place.

The anniversary update also delivers long-awaited technical improvements for console players. Ghost Recon Wildlands now supports 4K resolution at 60 frames per second on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, giving the sprawling landscapes of Bolivia a much smoother and sharper presentation. For many fans, this is the upgrade they've been requesting ever since the current generation of consoles launched.

Ubisoft didn't stop at visual enhancements. The update introduces Ghost Parameters, an extensive suite of gameplay customization options that lets players tailor the experience to their liking. Features such as authentic reloading, friendly fire, weapon restrictions, and other realism-focused settings can be adjusted individually, allowing players to create anything from a forgiving co-op adventure to a brutally immersive military simulation. The HUD has also become far more customizable, while new time-of-day and weather controls let squads choose the environmental conditions before heading into an operation. Expanded difficulty settings further increase player freedom by allowing fine-tuned control over enemy toughness, health regeneration, and other gameplay variables.

As part of the anniversary celebration, Ubisoft has also restored previously limited content, including the fan-favorite Predator crossover mission, making it accessible once again after years of absence. The company says the goal of the update is to celebrate the community that has supported Ghost Recon for a quarter of a century while giving longtime players compelling reasons to return.

The festivities extend beyond Wildlands. Ubisoft has applied hefty discounts to both Ghost Recon Wildlands and Ghost Recon Breakpoint and you can try them for free for a limited time, while PC players can permanently claim Ghost Recon: Future Soldier through Ubisoft Connect. A special Ghost Recon Breakpoint 25th Anniversary Bundle is also scheduled to arrive in September with a collection of free cosmetic rewards.
