GARFIELD – Escape from Monday a sew Garfield's adventure
Garfield has been a familiar name to generations of audiences. From comics and animated shows to movies and countless licensed products, the orange, lasagna-loving cat has always found a way to return with his trademark laziness and humorous expressions intact. Video games are no exception, with Garfield appearing across several different genres over the years. This time, GARFIELD – Escape from Monday brings him back in a new 3D platforming adventure developed by OSome Studio and published by Microids.
One Strange Dream, Over 40 Levels, and Plenty of Lasagna
The story of GARFIELD – Escape from Monday begins when Jon gives Garfield a spinach lasagna made using Chef Monday's recipe. After eating it, Garfield falls into a deep sleep and finds himself in a strange world filled with vegetables, sugar-free candy, and plenty of things that are far less appealing to a cat who would rather be eating lasagna. To wake up and recover his sense of taste, Garfield must travel through the unusual worlds inside his dream.
The name Escape from Monday may immediately remind longtime Garfield fans of the running joke about how much the cat dislikes Mondays. However, in the story revealed so far, Monday also directly refers to Chef Monday, whose spinach lasagna recipe sets the entire adventure in motion.
In terms of gameplay, GARFIELD – Escape from Monday is a single-player 3D action-platformer featuring 3 worlds and more than 40 levels. Garfield will need to make use of his feline abilities to navigate different areas, including running, jumping, climbing walls, and curling himself into a ball. The game also introduces three costumes, each with its own ability:
- Turkey costume: allows Garfield to fly or move through the air.
- Surfer costume: lets him glide across water.
- Cowboy costume: gives Garfield a lasso that can be used to swing across certain areas.
Alongside platforming challenges, players will encounter enemies, various trials, and boss battles throughout the adventure. Lasagna will naturally be scattered across the levels as well, just as you would expect from a game starring Garfield.
Exploration is also tied to a collectible system. Items found during the adventure can be used to refurbish rooms in Jon's house, giving players an additional goal beyond simply reaching the end of each level.
Several familiar faces will also return. Jon, Odie, Arlene, and Pookie will accompany or assist Garfield, while Nermal and Squeak will appear on the opposing side. Their inclusion, together with lasagna, vegetables, and all kinds of unusual situations, suggests that OSome Studio is building the adventure around many of the familiar elements that have long defined Garfield's world.
That may also become one of the most interesting things to see once the game arrives. Garfield is recognizable not only because of his appearance, but also because of his dry attitude, laziness, endless love of lasagna, and amusing reactions to almost everything he dislikes. For a franchise built so heavily around humor, whether GARFIELD – Escape from Monday can naturally carry those traits into its dialogue, cutscenes, and individual levels is something that can only be properly judged once the game is released.
GARFIELD – Escape from Monday is scheduled to launch on September 24, 2026, for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch. Can this strange journey through Garfield's dream deliver a version of the famous orange cat that feels familiar while remaining fun enough for both younger players and longtime Garfield fans?
