Game Science teases what’s next for the Black Myth IP
Game Science has confirmed that the world of Black Myth: Wukong is far from finished. While fans may have expected DLC or a direct sequel to be announced following the game’s huge success, the studio instead teased that Wukong’s journey will continue in some form—and that the Black Myth IP is only just beginning.
The developer shared this detail alongside the announcement of Black Myth: Zhong Kui, a brand-new title revealed during Gamescom Opening Night Live. Inspired by the legendary demon queller from Chinese mythology, Black Myth: Zhong Kui marks a bold step for the studio as it expands its universe beyond the Monkey King.
An Expanding IP With No Signs of Slowing
On the official website for Black Myth: Zhong Kui, Game Science explained why it chose to launch a new project instead of producing immediate follow-up content for Black Myth: Wukong. According to the studio, the goal is to build more diverse gameplay experiences, challenge themselves with riskier features, and explore fresh narrative ideas.
Yet the most striking statement was a short but clear promise to Wukong’s fans: “The westward journey won’t end here.” While the studio didn’t confirm whether this means a direct sequel or downloadable content, the message makes it clear that Black Myth: Wukong is not the last time players will see the Monkey King.
For now, all eyes are on Black Myth: Zhong Kui, though development is still in its early stages and no release window has been hinted at. Game Science stressed that even its own team has “absolutely no idea” when the game will arrive. Still, the studio’s decision to branch out with multiple projects signals confidence in Black Myth as a long-term franchise.
Whether Black Myth: Wukong’s next chapter comes as DLC, a sequel, or something entirely new, it’s clear that the Black Myth IP won’t be ending anytime soon—and fans can look forward to many more adventures rooted in Chinese mythology.
