Beast of Reincarnation: A Post-Apocalyptic Survival Quest

This summer, specifically in August 2026, we will welcome a new masterpiece developed by GAME FREAK Inc. (the studio famous for the Pokémon game series across many generations of Nintendo consoles). This is a completely new project of theirs, initially known under the codename Project Bloom, but thait has been presented as Beast of Reincarnation.

A brutal plot in the desolate world of the year 4026

Developed by GAME FREAK Inc. and published by Fictions, the game combines action RPG, adventure, and soulslike elements, and it features a single-player mode that can be played offline. The game is expected to be released on three platforms: PC (Steam), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. It willa lso be available via the Xbox Game Pass service on day one.

Beast of Reincarnation is set in post-apocalyptic Japan in the year 4026, when the world has been devastated by a corrupting disease that has created mutated forests and monstrous creatures.

The plot revolves around two main characters:

• Emma: An 18-year-old girl bearing the title "The Sealer". She is shunned by society due to being infected with the disease itself (Blightborn), but in return, she has the ability to manipulate plants and possesses masterful swordsmanship skills.

• Koo: A mutated dog (blighted dog) who is deeply loyal to Emma's and her only companion.

The two meet in the Far East and embark together on a grueling journey through desolate lands, fighting bosses across the world to gather their power, aiming toward the ultimate goal of destroying the Beast of Reincarnation—the source of all decay—to save humanity.

The storyline is brutal and deep and its filled with dark secrets. The art style and story of the game are often compared to the works of Studio Ghibli, most notably Princess Mononoke.

The developer defines Beast of Reincarnation as a groundbreaking action RPG following a "one-person, one-dog action RPG" model with technical and demanding combat mechanics (similar to Soulslike game series such as Black Myth: Wukong or Sekiro).

The game will offer a rather unique gameplay style. First of all, it features a hybrid combat system, where the combat encounters are a combination of real-time action and turn-based strategy. You directly control Emma to perform agile swordsmanship combos and dodges, while simultaneously commanding the dog Koo to unleash supporting moves or special techniques, resembling the mechanics of a turn-based RPG.

Not only that, the game features a diverse system of skill trees, gear, and spirit stones that allows players to shape their own fighting style. This ranges from aggressive frontal attacks and ranged combat to stealthy maneuvers.

In Beast of Reincarnation, the world map changes continuously.  Mutated forests can suddenly sprout from barren desert lands, bringing a sense of solitude but also bigger excitement during exploration.

The project was started in 2020 and first announced in May 2023 under the name Project Bloom through a partnership between Game Freak and Private Division (before Fictions took over publishing rights). Gameplay and title were confirmed at the Xbox Games Showcase in 2025 before setting its release date for August 2026.
