Attack on Titan 3 Unveils New Details in Gameplay Reveal
Following its reveal at Summer Game Fest 2026, Koei Tecmo hosted a nearly 45-minute Gameplay Presentation to offer a closer look at Attack on Titan 3. The entire broadcast was presented in Japanese and featured members of the development team alongside the game's voice cast, making it difficult for many international fans to follow from start to finish. If you haven't had the chance to watch the presentation, this article summarizes the most important information officially confirmed by Koei Tecmo, helping you quickly catch up on the biggest highlights before the game's release.
What did the Gameplay Presentation reveal about Attack on Titan 3?
The presentation was hosted by Shiori Mikami, the voice actress of Historia Reiss in both the game and anime, alongside Yui Ishikawa, the voice of Mikasa Ackerman, and producer Hideo Suzuki. The showcase opened with the second trailer for Attack on Titan 3, retracing Eren Yeager's journey from his early days in the Scout Regiment all the way to the events of Attack on Titan: The Final Season. According to Hideo Suzuki, this will be the first game to recreate the entire story of the series in a single title, while also being designed so that both longtime fans and newcomers who have never watched the anime can easily enjoy the experience.
After introducing the game's story, the Gameplay Presentation quickly shifted to its most anticipated segment, with Hideo Suzuki walking viewers through the four core gameplay systems that will shape the overall experience of Attack on Titan 3.
The first was an enhanced ODM Gear system that offers more fluid movement, while Titans now feature a wider variety of behaviors to create more challenging encounters. For newcomers, a new Casual Mode has been introduced to simplify the controls without sacrificing the fast-paced combat that defines the series.
Wall-Outer Investigation is an entirely new feature that allows players to assemble their own squad, recruit soldiers, venture beyond the Walls, hunt Titans, and develop a support base. Meanwhile, Character Create lets players build their own custom character, while Character Interaction enables them to strengthen relationships with familiar faces such as Eren, Mikasa, and Armin, unlocking additional dialogue and combat-related benefits along the way.
The biggest highlight of the presentation was an extended live gameplay demonstration narrated by Hideo Suzuki himself. Rather than simply describing the game's mechanics, the producer guided viewers through an expedition beyond the Walls to demonstrate how the newly introduced systems work during actual gameplay.
The demonstration showed players riding horses to conserve gas before using binoculars to locate Titans from a distance. Once combat begins, the environment can be used to launch surprise attacks, while three new abilities—Buddy Arts, Combat Arts, and Boost Move—provide additional tactical options during battle. Beyond defeating Titans, players must also rescue captured allies, reclaim outposts to replenish blades, gas, and health, and unlock Fast Travel for easier navigation across the battlefield. Relics recovered from fallen soldiers can also be collected and used to upgrade equipment.
The presentation then moved on to a live gameplay session featuring Yui Ishikawa, the voice actress of Mikasa Ackerman. With Casual Mode enabled, she played through the defense of Trost District and successfully completed the mission, demonstrating how the new control scheme allows even players with little experience in action games to quickly get comfortable with Attack on Titan 3's gameplay.
Beyond gameplay, Koei Tecmo also confirmed that Studio MAPPA, the studio behind Attack on Titan: The Final Season, will produce the game's opening animation. However, the opening movie will be released as a free post-launch update rather than being included in the game's initial release.
The Gameplay Presentation concluded with Hideo Suzuki thanking fans for supporting the series over the years. Koei Tecmo also confirmed that the information shown during this presentation represents only part of its promotional campaign, meaning more features and additional content will be revealed in the months leading up to launch.
Overall, this Gameplay Presentation offered a much clearer picture of the scale and core systems behind Attack on Titan 3. Here are the biggest takeaways at a glance:
- Attack on Titan 3 will recreate the complete story of the anime, from beginning to The Final Season, within a single game.
- Casual Mode has been added to make the series' signature high-speed combat more approachable for newcomers.
- Wall-Outer Investigation expands the experience with expeditions beyond the Walls, squad management, and base development.
- Studio MAPPA will produce the game's opening animation, which will be released as a free post-launch update.
- Koei Tecmo confirmed that the Gameplay Presentation only revealed part of what the game has to offer, with more features and announcements planned before launch.
