A new DLC for Age of Empires IV is on the way

The "Knights of Cross and Rose" DLC for Age of Empires IV will be released on April 8, 2025. This expansion introduces two new variant civilizations:

Knights Templar: An innovative take on the French civilization, featuring unique units and strategies. Also, this new DLC welcomes the return of the Teuton Knight unit, which any Age of Empire II veteran would recognize at first sight.

House of Lancaster: A variant of the English civilization, offering distinct gameplay mechanics. This new faction is a perfect blend between economic and defensive play styles, which heavily emphasizes the Manor mechanic. This structure can both boost your economy and produce a strong infantry unit, the Levies.

A new game mode: Historical Battles

Additionally, this DLC includes a new game mode called "Historical Battles," which presents players with scenarios based on significant historical events, providing a fresh single-player experience. Unlike the more narrative-centric campaigns, these scenarios focus on key moments throughout the history of the Knights Templar and the House of Lancaster. Players can also look forward to 10 new maps designed for skirmish and multiplayer modes. This release coincides with the Season Ten update, which brings additional content and balance changes to the game. When the season kicks off, players will have access to a new rotation of maps in 1v1 and team ranked modes. Also, the new season will introduce the Points of Interest, neutral locations that can be captured to gain important rewards, including additional resources or even relics. This feature will incorporate a new dynamic into the game, as POIs require many units to be captured quickly, which adds a new risk vs reward mechanic to the game.
