Bigger does not mean better, or at least that's what Ninja Theory thinks about video games. The studio has talked about this matter in a recent interview with IGN where studio head Dom Matthews shared his view. According to Matthews, the light of a certain game is not tied to the quality of the experience, and if the developers want to tell a story, the game should adjust to the narrative to accomplish that goal.
The risk of offering an experience that has been enlarged unnecessarily to make players play for a longer time indeed is a common practice in certain genres, especially with the addition of side quests that do not have any impact on the story or add no extra flavour to the world of the game.
