Star Wars Battlefront II receives its final update

November 17, 2017, was a date that many Star Wars fans will remember. The release of Star Wars Battlefront II is to be remembered because of the unneeded and controversial statement from EA on Reddit which managed to become the most down-voted post in the history of the platform. The microtransactions system in the game leaned quite noticeably to provide an unfair advantage to those who purchased loot boxes and the huge response from the community forced EA to remove it, albeit temporarily. Gladly enough, the system was changed to offer only cosmetic items, but this event had a heavy impact on the release of Star Wars Battlefront II.

Almost three years later, Star Wars Battlefront II has found its spot in the hearts of the fans. DICE has been steadily releasing new content for the game through free updates but it seems that this ends today with the launch of The Battle of Scarif. Star Wars Battlefront II Creative Director Dennis Brännvall has announced in a letter to the community that this will be the final update for the game. DICE won't be adding any more content to Star Wars Battlefront II.

Looking beyond April, we’re transitioning to a phase where the servers, in-game challenges, recurring events such as Double XP and more, and game support will carry this broad and rich Star Wars gaming experience into the future. This means that we’re moving away from delivering regular content updates.

Of course, no new projects have been mentioned so we don't know if the development team is going to work in a future sequel to Star Wars Battlefront II. At least it' good to know that servers will continue working and that you all can still play to the game.

In the same letter, the contents of The Battle of Scarif were outlined. The final update for Star Wars Battlefront II adds the Age of Rebellion era to Supremacy and Instant Action. It also includes the tropical planet Scarif. Starfighters can now be piloted in most Age of Rebellion Supremacy locations and there is a new gameplay mode that allows you to play solo offline against bots on all Co-Op enabled locations and in Instant Action. The update also includes new appearances for Darth Maul, Emperor Palpatine, Rey, and Supreme Leader Kylo Ren.

We don't know yet if there will be a Star Wars Battlefront III in the future, but the second installment in the series definitely has more than enough content to keep Star Wars fans happy for a while. DICE can be proud of having redeemed a game that everyone thought beyond salvation after one of the worst launches in the story of video games.
