The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu is a first-person cooperative horror game where every expedition into the unknown becomes a fight for survival, sanity, and trust. Inspired by cosmic horror, you and your team venture deep into a mysterious jungle in search of a legendary underground world rumored to hold unimaginable riches. But the deeper you descend, the more reality begins to fracture.

What starts as an archaeological expedition soon turns into a nightmare. Ancient forces awaken beneath the earth, twisting your perception and preying on your fears. Hallucinations blur the line between truth and illusion, making it impossible to know whether the horrors surrounding you are real—or whether your closest allies can still be trusted.

Designed for up to four players, The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu challenges teams to work together while confronting an ever-changing psychological threat. Communication, resource management, and careful decision-making are just as important as survival, as every choice can determine whether the expedition uncovers forgotten secrets or becomes another lost legend.

With oppressive environments, unpredictable encounters, and a constant sense of escalating dread, every journey into the depths offers a unique experience. The jungle hides more than ancient ruins—it conceals a darkness capable of consuming anyone who dares to uncover its secrets.

FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

: What is the core gameplay loop of The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu, and how does it differ from typical horror games?
The core gameplay loop revolves around managing your character's sanity while investigating a series of disturbing events. Unlike many horror games focused on combat or jump scares, The Mound emphasizes psychological horror, resource management (specifically, maintaining sanity), and piecing together a fragmented narrative through environmental clues and cryptic messages.; How does the 'Sanity' mechanic directly influence gameplay and player actions in The Mound?
Sanity is not just a health bar; it's a dynamic resource that affects your perception of the world. As your sanity depletes, visual and auditory hallucinations become more frequent and intense, the environment distorts, and your ability to interact with certain objects or solve puzzles may be compromised. Maintaining sanity is crucial for clear thinking and survival.; Can you elaborate on the 'Omens' system and how they guide or hinder the player's progress?
Omens are subtle (and sometimes not-so-subtle) signs and premonitions related to the encroaching Cthulhu mythos. They can manifest as recurring symbols, unsettling dreams, or strange environmental phenomena. Paying attention to Omens can offer hints towards the narrative's progression or reveal hidden dangers, but often they also serve to increase psychological stress, impacting your sanity.; What kind of 'investigation' mechanics are present, and how do players gather clues?
Investigation involves meticulous exploration of environments, examining objects for hidden details, reading documents (letters, journals, occult texts), listening to environmental audio cues, and solving environmental puzzles. Some clues are direct, while others are metaphorical and require interpretation, often tying back to the Omens.; Are there any combat mechanics, or is the game purely about evasion and puzzle-solving?
The Mound primarily focuses on psychological horror, evasion, and puzzle-solving. Direct combat is virtually non-existent. Players are encouraged to observe, strategize, and avoid direct confrontation with the eldritch entities or deranged individuals that may appear. Stealth and quick thinking are key to survival.; How does the narrative unfold, and what role do player choices play in the story's progression?
The narrative is presented in a non-linear fashion, with players gradually uncovering pieces of a larger, cosmic horror story. While there may not be branching storylines in a traditional sense, certain choices or successful/failed interactions can influence the immediate consequences, the state of your sanity, and potentially lead to different narrative epilogues.; What are some examples of 'psychological horror' elements that The Mound employs beyond visual scares?
Beyond visual distortions and hallucinations, the game uses unsettling sound design, ambiguous narrative elements that prey on player paranoia, a pervasive sense of dread and helplessness, and the existential horror of confronting cosmic insignificance. The psychological toll on the protagonist is a central theme.; How does the game balance providing enough information for players to progress without revealing too much of the mystery?
The game employs a careful drip-feed of information. Clues are often cryptic, requiring deduction and linking disparate pieces of evidence. The Omens system also serves as a guide, but their interpretation is left to the player. The goal is to foster a sense of discovery and unease rather than providing clear-cut answers.; What is the significance of the 'Mound' itself within the game's lore and mechanics?
The 'Mound' is not just a setting but a central entity or focal point of the unfolding cosmic events. Its influence permeates the environment and the characters' minds. Investigating the Mound and understanding its nature is intrinsically linked to unraveling the mystery and potentially confronting the source of the Omen.; How does the game encourage replayability, given its focus on a specific narrative and mechanics?
Replayability is driven by the desire to fully grasp the complex lore, discover all hidden clues, perhaps achieve different sanity states and endings, and test different approaches to managing stress and solving puzzles. The fragmented narrative encourages multiple playthroughs to piece together the full cosmic tapestry.
