Styx: Blades of Greed marks the return of the sharp-tongued goblin assassin in a new standalone stealth adventure set at the dawn of a world-spanning conflict. Once again developed by Cyanide Studio, the game builds on the foundations of the Styx series while expanding its scope, systems, and player freedom. Every mission is designed as a sandbox of shadows, verticality, and opportunity, where observation and clever planning matter more than brute force.

This time, Styx is no longer working for others. With his own crew and a zeppelin as his mobile base, he hunts Quartz, a volatile resource coveted by elves, humans, and orcs alike. As tensions escalate toward open war, Styx navigates a web of political intrigue, rival factions, and deadly inquisitors, driven by greed, survival, and his trademark cynical wit. The story ties directly into the origins of the Great War and the rise of the Black Hand mercenaries.

Stealth remains aa the core element of the experience, but with greater flexibility than ever before. Players can craft weapons and potions, unlock new abilities, and combine classic Amber powers such as cloning and invisibility with dangerous Quartz-based skills like mind control and temporal manipulation. Each encounter can be approached in multiple ways, rewarding creativity, patience, and mastery of the environment.

The game unfolds across large, interconnected locations designed for vertical exploration. Scale massive fortifications, infiltrate bustling settlements, and traverse ruined elven cities using a full suite of movement tools, including a glider, a grappling hook, and climbing claws. Progression gradually opens new routes and hidden areas, encouraging exploration and experimentation in true systemic stealth fashion.

Blending dark fantasy, tactical stealth, and sharp humor, Styx: Blades of Greed offers a refined and ambitious take on the series.

    FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use the clone ability to bypass enemy detection in stealth, and if so, how does it work?
Yes, you can. You can create a clone to distract enemies, trigger traps, or scout ahead. The clone's lifespan is limited, and its effectiveness depends on the upgrades you've chosen.
How does the 'amber vision' ability affect gameplay, and what are its limitations?
Amber vision highlights interactive objects, enemy patrol routes, and hidden passages. However, overuse drains your amber resource, leaving you vulnerable, and it cannot penetrate all obstacles.
What is the consequence of consuming too much amber, and how does it impact my abilities?
Overconsumption of amber leads to a 'berserk' state, increasing your strength but reducing stealth capabilities. You'll take more damage, and your other abilities will be unavailable until the effect wears off.
Explain the role of the crafting system in relation to the unique gameplay mechanics.
Crafting allows you to create specialized tools and consumables that enhance your abilities, enabling you to deal with specific combat and stealth situations, such as amber-infused traps or smoke bombs.
How does the Stygian currency 'souls' directly influence the gameplay loop, besides purchasing items?
Souls are used to unlock and upgrade your abilities and crafting recipes, shaping your playstyle. They are gained by killing enemies, completing objectives and discovering hidden areas.
How does the cooperative multiplayer mode change the strategic use of the clone ability?
In co-op, you and a friend can strategically use clones, setting up flanking maneuvers or coordinated attacks. You have to consider resource management, sharing the amber pool.
Describe the types of 'amber-infused' items and how they affect the gameplay experience.
Amber-infused items provide various strategic advantages, like enhanced stealth, temporary invincibility, or area-of-effect attacks. Their effectiveness will depend on the item, and the gameplay situation.
How does the environment, with its interactive elements, enhance the player's tactical options, and what are some examples?
The environment offers tactical options. You can use breakable objects to create distractions, manipulate levers to open pathways or trigger traps to eliminate enemies.
What is the risk/reward factor associated with the 'assassinate' skill, and how does it change the player's approach?
The 'assassinate' skill allows for instant kills on unsuspecting enemies, but failure alerts nearby foes. Mastering it requires stealth and timing, affecting how you choose to approach combat scenarios.
How do the various enemy types force a player to adapt and alter their approach when using the clone and amber vision?
Different enemies react differently to clones and amber vision. Some might immediately detect clones, while others are more susceptible to ambush tactics. Understanding enemy behavior is essential for efficient gameplay.

Bringing Styx back with his own zeppelin base and a crew gives a fresh narrative purpose to his cynical antics, and the focus on pure, vertical stealth sandbox design remains a breath of fresh air in an industry full of generic action RPGs. Combining classic Amber powers with new Quartz abilities like mind control opens up fantastic tactical freedom, especially when navigating the massive, multi-layered fortifications with the new glider and grappling hook. However, the strict reliance on trial-and-error stealth means that getting spotted still leads to incredibly frustrating and clunky melee combat, which will undoubtedly turn off players who prefer a more forgiving playstyle. It's a brilliant, uncompromising playground for hardcore stealth purists, but it does little to fix the franchise's long-standing weaknesses when things go loud.
