Cronos: The New Dawn is a harrowing third-person survival horror experience where time fractures reality and monsters evolve from your mistakes. Developed by Bloober Team, this sci-fi horror title challenges you to endure a world torn between dystopian futures and a decaying past. You play as the Traveler, an operative of a mysterious faction known only as the Collective. Sent into a desolate wasteland, your objective is to uncover and traverse temporal anomalies that lead back to 1980s Poland, a world forever scarred by a catastrophic event called The Change. These time rifts are lifelines into a collapsing reality where your every decision can alter what remains.

In this game, survival is unforgiving. Ammunition is rare, every weapon feels earned, and enemies are grotesque, shape-shifting abominations born from biological decay. But the true horror lies in their evolution: if left unburned, the corpses of fallen enemies can merge with others, creating terrifying new forms. This mechanic keeps the pressure high, demanding you think fast, act decisively, and never leave a body behind.

The world of Cronos: The New Dawn is bleak yet eerily beautiful. Its environments draw from brutalist architecture and retro-futuristic design, grounded in Eastern European landscapes and Cold War dread. The oppressive atmosphere is soaked in silence, shadows, and a creeping sense of inevitability.

Inspired by genre-defining classics like Resident Evil and Dead Space, Cronos: The New Dawn delivers tight, resource-driven combat and a relentless sense of dread. But it also carves its own identity, fusing psychological horror and body-horror with a narrative shaped by trauma, isolation, and the haunting ripple effects of history. What begins as a mission soon becomes a confrontation with your own past and a world that may not want to be saved.

    FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

If my chosen Cronos unit is defeated during a Temporal Rift encounter, will it be permanently removed from my roster?
No, defeated units are temporarily incapacitated and can be revived using specific resources or abilities. However, repeated defeats without proper recovery can lead to more severe penalties, such as reduced stats.
Can I directly control the actions of my Cronos units during the 'Echo of the Past' sequences, or are these segments primarily narrative-driven?
The 'Echo of the Past' sequences are a blend of narrative and strategic decision-making. While direct control is limited, your choices influence the outcome of these historical events, impacting your present timeline and unit strengths.
How does the 'Chronosurge' mechanic interact with the unit enhancement system? Can I use Chronosurge to directly power up my Cronos units' stats?
Chronosurge is a resource primarily used to activate powerful abilities and alter the battlefield. While it doesn't directly boost stats, strategically using Chronosurge-powered abilities is crucial for overcoming challenges and indirectly enhancing unit effectiveness.
Are all Cronos units equally susceptible to 'Temporal Decay', or do certain units possess inherent resistances?
Different Cronos units have varying levels of resistance to Temporal Decay. Units with higher temporal stability are more resilient to the negative effects of extended exposure to the corrupted timelines.
Does the 'Adaptive Combat System' dynamically adjust enemy AI based on my Cronos unit composition, or are enemy behaviors predetermined?
The Adaptive Combat System analyzes your team composition and modifies enemy AI behaviors in real-time. This ensures that battles remain challenging and require strategic adaptation throughout the game.
In what ways do I gain access to new 'Temporal Echoes' to replay and influence historical events?
New Temporal Echoes are unlocked by progressing through the main storyline, completing specific side objectives, and discovering hidden artifacts scattered across different timelines. Successfully navigating these echoes is key to altering your present.
How does the 'Fractured Reality' effect impact the battlefield, and can I manipulate these fractures to my advantage?
Fractured Reality introduces dynamic changes to the battlefield, such as temporary terrain alterations or the manifestation of temporal anomalies. You can strategically use abilities and movement to capitalize on these fractures or mitigate their effects.
Is there a limit to how many times I can revisit a 'Temporal Rift' or engage in a specific historical 'Echo'?
You can revisit Temporal Rifts and engage with Echoes multiple times. However, each attempt consumes resources or requires specific conditions to be met, encouraging strategic planning and resource management.
Beyond combat, how does the 'Timeline Weaving' mechanic influence the game's overall narrative and world-building?
Timeline Weaving allows you to make pivotal choices within Echoes that directly influence the unfolding narrative, shape the world's lore, and determine the fates of key characters. It offers unique branching storylines.
Are there any irreversible choices within the game's narrative or gameplay systems that could impact the long-term viability of a chosen Cronos unit or a particular strategy?
While the game offers a degree of freedom, some choices have lasting consequences. Certain decisions in Temporal Echoes, or the repeated neglect of a particular Cronos unit, may limit your options or impact long-term strategies, encouraging careful planning.

Cronos: The New Dawn is a very pleasant surprise. The atmosphere is top-notch, with a real Dead Space vibe: oppressive, dark, and immersive. The gameplay is simple for the genre, but effective. The weapons are cool, even if some lack power, especially the shotguns. There are also perhaps a few too many charge weapons. I would have liked a more powerful melee weapon and a better dismemberment system. For me, the game only has two real flaws. First, to see the good ending, you have to do two playthroughs. The first is fun for discovering the game, but the second is pointless: with fully upgraded weapons, you breeze through everything and nothing changes: same bosses, same number of enemies… Finally, the explosive barrels, as soon as you see them, you know a fight is coming, which removes some of the tension. And for those wondering if the game is full of jumpscares: only three, if I remember correctly.
