Gothic, the cult role-playing game originally released in 2001, has now its long-awaited remake! Return to the kingdom of Myrtana, to the island of Khorinis Rhobar II, where you can find a penal colony for prisoners. In the Mining Valley, they must work beyond extenuation to extract valuable ore. The Magi have surrounded the Valley with a magical barrier so that the prisoners can't escape, but something has gone wrong. The barrier has surrounded the entire island, trapping prisoners, island guards, mages, and sinister creatures alike. You take on the role of a nameless prisoner who finds himself in this place, but a lifetime of work in the mines will not be your destiny...
The game is played in the third-person perspective and it features a limited open world. You will visit many places on the island, including camps of prisoners from the mines, the mines themselves, mysterious ruins, and orc villages. The game's plot is not linear, and it's influenced by many factors, such as your choice of a faction to join. In addition to the main story tasks, there are plenty of side quests. On the island, you will meet many opponents, including other hostile convicts, monsters, wolves, dwarves, skeletons, demons, and orcs. To defeat them you will have a wide array of weapons at your disposal, including swords, hammers, axes, bows, and even offensive and defensive spells. Completing tasks will grant you experience points that can be used to make your character stronger. You can also learn skills such as sneaking, crafting, and lockpicking from characters that you will meet during your adventure.
Gothic Remake has been created with Unreal Engine 4, which allows for a significant improvement in graphics and refinement of the environment and character models. Motion capture was used to refresh story interludes.
