In this game, players compete in various races in their sports car. The difference between Team Sonic Racing and other kart racing titles is its cooperative gameplay. This means that you can race as a part of a team of racers and winning will take more than just speed.
This game features both single player and multiplayer modes. Players can select from the fifteen characters in the Sonic the Hedgehog series and use them as pilots to join races. Team Sonic Racing has three types of racing classes: power, speed, and technique and each player have their own abilities. Wisps are the powerups in the game and can be collected from canisters with a “?” mark. These wisps give players temporary defensive and offensive advantages.
The locations of the games are based on the main Sonic games, and they are packed with twenty-one tracks each, split across seven zones. Team Sonic Racing has several features such as different games modes – Grand Prix, where players compete to earn points, Time Trial, where players race to get the fastest time record, and Exhibition, where players customize the rules of the race.
Team Sonic Racing can have up to twelve online players, three players for Team Adventure, and four-player local multiplayer.
