Voltage High Society turns melee combat into horror
Voltage High Society is not the kind of game that wastes time trying to look normal. It drops you onto Nemo Ultra, a ruined cyberpunk prison island packed with locked paths, strange machines, and monsters that look like they were built during a nightmare. At first glance, it has the bones of a Metroidvania: explore, find new routes, unlock abilities, return to old areas, and slowly understand how the whole place connects. The twist is that it plays in first person and makes close-range combat a huge part of the experience.
First-person combat with no safe distance
The melee combat is what gives Voltage High Society its personality. This is not a shooter where you clear rooms from a safe distance. You are often right in front of the enemy, punching, dodging, learning attack patterns, and trying to survive fights that feel messy in a good way. Starting with your fists makes every encounter feel a little more personal. Later on, new weapons and abilities expand what you can do, but the game never loses that raw, punch-your-way-through-the-nightmare feeling.
Its cyberpunk horror style does a lot of the heavy lifting too. The world feels dirty, broken, and hostile, with old-school visuals that make the whole thing look even more uncomfortable. The creatures are weird, the spaces feel unsafe, and the atmosphere has that “I probably should not be here” energy from the first few minutes. There is a bit of Metroid Prime in the first-person exploration and ability-based progression, but Voltage High Society is nastier, stranger, and much more focused on getting you into ugly close-quarters fights.
The big reason people are talking about it now is simple: Voltage High Society has just hit full release after years in Early Access. That means the final level, ending, and complete structure are now in place, turning it from a promising oddity into a finished game. And so far, players seem to be loving what it does. It is not getting attention because it looks like everything else; it is getting attention because it has a clear identity and actually follows through on it.
So, if you want a cyberpunk horror Metroidvania where your fists are part of the map-clearing strategy, Voltage High Society is worth checking out. Before jumping in, use our price comparison tool to find the best prices for Voltage High Society and grab it at the best deal available.
