Know about The Walking Dead: Streets of Survival before launch
There is very little time left before The Walking Dead: Streets of Survival officially launches on September 18, 2026. Rather than following the narrative adventure or survival formulas seen in many previous games based on The Walking Dead, Odaclick Game Studio is taking a more direct approach with side-scrolling beat ’em up gameplay. Rick, Daryl, and Michonne once again face Walkers, Saviors, and other familiar threats, but this time through a combat-focused experience with a strong arcade feel.
The Walking Dead: Streets of Survival Turns the Savior War Into an Arcade Brawl
The Walking Dead: Streets of Survival is set during the Savior War, the period centered on the conflict between Rick Grimes and Negan in Seasons 7 and 8 of AMC’s television series. The campaign will take players through familiar locations such as Alexandria, Hilltop, and the Sanctuary, with environmental hazards, set pieces, and situations built around the world of The Walking Dead.
Rather than becoming a large-scale survival game, the experience mainly revolves around side-scrolling combat with an arcade-style pace. Players can combine melee attacks, ranged attacks, combos, and each character’s signature weapons to deal with groups of Walkers, Saviors, and several familiar bosses.
The three initially playable characters are:
- Rick Grimes, armed with his signature magnum.
- Daryl Dixon, who fights using his crossbow.
- Michonne, who specializes in close-range combat with her katana.
Each character has their own fighting style, stats, and abilities. They also come with a full skill tree that allows players to improve their stats and abilities as they progress through the game. According to the developer, fully upgrading a character will require multiple playthroughs, while several difficulty levels add another layer of replayability.
Another notable addition is Negan. He will not be available from the beginning and instead becomes unlockable after completing the first playthrough. Players can then use Negan and Lucille to experience the game again alongside Rick, Daryl, and Michonne.
Combat is not the entire experience either. The Walking Dead: Streets of Survival also mixes in exploration, scavenging, and light survival elements as players make their way through tunnels, settlements, and strongholds. These systems are designed to complement the core beat ’em up formula rather than turn the game into a complex survival RPG.
When it comes to progression and customization, the focus remains on each character’s skill tree. The game has not been presented as having a full character creation or in-depth character editing system, but cosmetic content has been confirmed in the form of character and weapon skins. The Deluxe Edition’s Arcade Apocalypse Pack, for example, includes Civic Republic Military Rick alongside Bloody Lucille and Tactical Magnum, while the pre-order Golden Survival Pack comes with seven golden weapon skins.
The game is designed entirely around single-player and currently has no multiplayer or co-op. Trailmark Games has also confirmed that there are no plans to add co-op at this time, which is a relatively unusual choice for a beat ’em up.
Players have already had an opportunity to try the game before launch through a roughly 45-minute demo featured during Steam Next Fest in June. The demo lets players control Daryl and Michonne in the Alexandria Sewers and includes a boss fight. It currently holds a Mostly Positive rating on Steam, with around 73% of reviews being positive.
The Deluxe Edition also includes the Arcade Apocalypse Pack, featuring Walker Pit – an Endless Survival Mode – the checkpoint-free Hell on Earth difficulty, additional cosmetics, and a digital soundtrack.
The Walking Dead: Streets of Survival officially launches on September 18, 2026, for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2. With its straightforward beat ’em up formula combined with exploration, progression, and light survival elements, can this arcade-focused approach bring something fresh to the world of The Walking Dead?
