Several selected Switch 1 games will get an enhanced version on Switch 2

Nintendo held a livestream revealing more details about the Nintendo Switch 2, including its release date and some of the games coming to the new console. As for new titles, the livestream introduced games like Mario Kart World, a new open-world entry in the renowned Mario Kart franchise. Donkey Kong Bananza, a new 3D Donkey Kong game featuring an extremely destructible environment, was also announced, along with Kirby Air Riders, a Kirby racing game whose first version was released on the GameCube in 2003.

Besides new titles, Nintendo showcased that several games released on the Switch 1 will have enhanced versions on the Switch 2. Since the new console boasts better visual quality, with HDR effects, a maximum resolution of 4K, and a frame rate of up to 120 FPS, some games will take advantage of these features. For example, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will offer both graphics and performance modes. Graphics mode allows visuals at 4K and 60 FPS with HDR while docked and at 1080p and 60 FPS with HDR in handheld mode. Meanwhile, performance mode will display 1080p and 120 FPS with HDR while docked and 720p and 120 FPS with HDR in handheld mode.

Other games like The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will also get enhanced versions. Nintendo kept it brief in the description, saying the game would have improved resolution and frame rates, but confirmed HDR support. It is estimated that Tears of the Kingdom will also support 60 FPS on the Switch 2, and the same can be speculated for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Other games receiving enhanced versions include Pokémon Legends Z-A and Super Mario Party Jamboree. The latter's highlight is Jamboree TV, which will add minigames employing the new features of the Switch 2, such as the built-in microphone and the possibility of adding a camera. Some upgrade versions will charge extra, while others will be free.

The Nintendo Switch 2 will cost $450/£395.99/€469.99. Among the various new features introduced in the Switch 2 is a new Joy-Con, which now connects magnetically to the console, and the addition of a C button, which grants access to GameChat—a feature enabling real-time voice and video chat, though the camera is sold separately. The new console has a larger screen, faster 256GB storage, two USB-C ports, a mouse function for controls, and other improvements.
