Stronghold: Definitive Edition is revealed at the series' 20th-anniversary celebration

The original Stronghold reached its 20th anniversary recently, and to celebrate, Firefly Studios is thrilled to announce Stronghold: Definitive Edition. Carefully rebuilt using the source artwork, remastered music, returning voice talent, and veteran developers of the first entry in this legendary series, Stronghold: Definitive Edition is coming for PC.

"We have been itching to build this game for years now," said Simon Bradbury, Co-Founder and Design Lead at Firefly Studios.

"It's been exciting getting to work with some of the team from back in 1999. Coders, artists, even some of the original voice actors! Stronghold is over 20 years old now, but getting our hands on many areas of the game like updated art, better UI, UX improvements and new campaign missions, these are all things that make us happy. This is the start of a new era for Stronghold and we can't wait to show you what we've been working on."

In Stronghold, players besiege unforgettable villains and epic citadels pulled straight from the history books before getting lost in the detail of their bustling castle economy and even going combat-free in various economic game modes. Showcasing the combined skill and experience of the original designers, artists, actors, and beloved series composer Robert L. Euvino, Stronghold: Definitive Edition is a love letter to the golden age of real-time strategy. The series' latest entry was Stronghold: Warlords, set in East Asia.

Building on its 20-year legacy as the original city builder meets RTS, Stronghold: Definitive Edition invites players to relive the glory of the first Stronghold, remade with new visuals and siege scenarios. This latest entry in the 'castle sim' series features the original game's classic military and economic campaigns, together with an entirely new 14-mission narrative campaign designed by Firefly Studio's founders Simon Bradbury and Eric Ouellette. This is alongside additional single-player content in the form of a 10-mission 'Castle Trail,' which sees players defend or besiege historical castles such as Warwick, Dunnottar, and Marksburg.

In addition to technical enhancements and player-requested quality-of-life improvements, Stronghold: Definitive Edition will allow old and new fans to customize their experience with individual settings for many of their preferred game features and controls. Beyond the fresh single-player content, players will also weave new gallant tales of victory by picking a fight online with full Steam multiplayer support, so you can finally take revenge against your friend Greg, as stated in the trailer. Alternatively, players can design  their own fiendishly challenging maps via Steam Workshop or downloading hundreds of creations made during the game's rich 20-year legacy.

Stronghold: Definitive Edition releases on November 7th for PC on Steam. Fans of the 'Castle Sim' can check our comparator for the best deals on Stronghold: Definitive Edition codes and start building their empire from scratch.
