Nihon Falcom is officially taking us back to the gorgeous streets of a modernized Kyoto on July 16, 2026. Only this time, things are a lot less peaceful than they seem.

Ten years after the original Tokyo Xanadu captured the hearts of urban fantasy fans, Falcom is treating us to a completely fresh start with KYOTO XANADU—The Blooming Phantom.

The Dual-Dimensional Gameplay Hook

 

 

If you never played the original, don't sweat it. Kyoto Xanadu is a completely self-contained entry. It drops you straight into the shoes of Rei Kamiya, a high school student who transfers to Hirasaka Academy—a specialized school for individuals known as "Qualifiers". After awakening to mysterious supernatural abilities, Rei and his classmates are tasked with diving into Xanadu, a labyrinthine alternate dimension hiding directly beneath the school.

What makes this game stand out is its unique blend of school-life simulation and high-octane action. Falcom is introducing a "Dual-Dimensional" combat flow that splits your playtime into two distinct perspectives:

  • 2D Dungeon Crawling: Navigate complex labyrinth layouts, dodge environmental hazards, and solve puzzles as you explore the depths of Xanadu.
  • 3D Action Combat: Face off against hostile monsters in fast-paced 3D encounters. You'll switch between characters, unleash unique "Soul Device" weapons, and pull off flashy, high-damage finishers.

When you're not fighting for your life underground, you'll be living the ultimate school-anime life. You can wander around Kyoto's historic districts, attend classes to boost your stats, and play cards to unlock unique team buffs. The game also features a deep relationship system that allows you to spend time with your favorite classmates, trigger special visual novel-style stories, and unlock powerful combat perks.

La jugabilidad mostrada hasta ahora es buena. Los combates parecen fluidos, los ambientes variados y la exploración promete varias actividades fuera de los enfrentamientos. Sobre todo, espero que el guion esté a la altura de las circunstancias, ya que Falcom a menudo logra construir personajes entrañables a lo largo de la aventura

The Kyoto setting feels like a good match for the urban fantasy style. Exploring the city, spending time at school, and then jumping into another world gives the story a nice balance without focusing on combat all the time.

O universo parece realmente bem sucedido. A mistura de um Kyoto moderno com dimensões sobrenaturais confere uma forte identidade ao jogo. Falcom geralmente domina os RPGs orientados para ação e este parece seguir o mesmo caminho. The universe seems truly successful. The mix of a modern Kyoto with supernatural dimensions gives the game a strong identity. Falcom usually dominates action-oriented RPGs, and this one seems to be following the same path. The art direction immediately catches the eye, and the combat seems dynamic enough to maintain a good pace.
