AMD may revive Ryzen 7 5800X3D to mark AM4 platform’s 10th anniversary

Rumors say AMD will bring back the 5800X3D to mark AM4's 10th anniversary.

While Intel is only recently starting to emphasize long-term socket support, AMD has followed that approach for years with AM4, continuing to support it even after transitioning to AM5. The company has kept the platform relevant with strong Ryzen 5000-series CPUs, including the once highly regarded Ryzen 7 5800X3D. Although AMD discontinued that chip last year, it may not be gone after all.

Recent leaks suggest that AMD could be preparing to bring back the Ryzen 7 5800X3D. Hardware leaker HXL shared an image from what appears to be an internal AMD presentation, showing the CPU alongside a special AM4 10-Year Anniversary Edition plaque. The accompanying Chinese text reportedly indicates availability starting in Q2 2026.

Importantly, this doesn’t appear to be an updated version. The leaked specifications match the original model: 8 cores, 16 threads, 96 MB of L3 cache, boost speeds up to 4.5 GHz, and a 105W TDP - though typical power usage is often lower in practice. In other words, it’s essentially the same CPU returning, possibly with refreshed packaging to mark the occasion.

During CES 2026, AMD hinted at reviving select Zen 3 processors, partly due to the continued affordability of DDR4 compared to increasingly expensive DDR5 memory. With the AM4 platform nearing its 10-year milestone, reintroducing one of its most iconic chips as a commemorative edition would be a logical move.

This potential return comes at a good time for budget-conscious AM4 users. Other X3D chips like the 5600X3D and 5500X3D have limited regional availability, leaving many to opt for standard models like the 5800X or 5600X, which fall behind in gaming performance. Even today, the 5800X3D remains a strong performer, holding up against newer CPUs like the Core Ultra 5 245K and Ryzen 5 9600X. For those still on AM4, this could be a very appealing upgrade path.
