Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2 Continues the Fight Against Xenomorphs
Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2 is now officially available, bringing players back into the fight against the Xenomorphs with a new campaign and a range of changes built on the foundation of its predecessor. After what Aliens: Fireteam Elite accomplished, as well as the limitations that remained in the previous experience, the sequel now faces an important question: can Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2 improve upon its predecessor and deliver a more complete co-op experience?
What Does Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2 Aim to Improve?
Aliens: Fireteam Elite made its mark with a third-person co-op shooter formula directly inspired by the Alien franchise. Working together to fight through hordes of Xenomorphs offered an experience well suited to groups of friends looking to take on PvE campaigns together.
However, the first game also left some room for improvement. Its story was not explored as deeply as it could have been, while the gameplay could eventually start to feel repetitive once players became familiar with its combat systems and class roles. Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2 continues that familiar formula while expanding it in several ways. Squads can now include 4 Colonial Marines, while the Specialist system allows players to combine abilities from different classes to create builds that fit their team's needs.
The sequel also takes players to LV-558, where Fireteam Chimaera is deployed after receiving a distress signal from a mining colony. The story receives greater attention this time around, while new Xenomorph variants and more varied challenges are expected to put additional pressure on players. These changes were also experienced by members of the media ahead of launch. Hands-on previews were generally positive about the four-player co-op, progression system, and level of challenge, although some felt that the core gameplay did not offer a major breakthrough. This suggests that Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2 is focused on refining the existing formula rather than completely reinventing the experience.
Now that the game is officially live, players can see for themselves whether these changes are enough to address some of the limitations found in the first game. Crossplay between PC, PS5, and Xbox is available from day one, allowing up to four players to form a Fireteam together. A Day 1 Patch has also been released, bringing a wide range of bug fixes.
Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2 does not attempt to abandon the formula that made the first game work. Instead, it chooses to expand and refine it. With larger co-op squads, more character-building options, and a new campaign, the sequel now has an opportunity to prove that this formula still has plenty of room to grow. If you're looking for a co-op game to play with friends while fighting your way through hordes of Xenomorphs, Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2 is now ready for you to jump in.
