Roman Sands RE:Build - Survive the apocalypse at a resort

Roman Sands RE: Build turns the apocalypse into your worst work shift
Updates & Patches

What would you do if the world was about to end? Hide in a bunker? Find supplies? Prepare for the inevitable? In Roman Sands RE: Build, apparently the correct answer is to clock in for your shift at a luxury resort and make sure the guests are happy. This surreal adventure combines horror, puzzles, exploration, simulation mechanics and visual-novel storytelling to create one of the strangest takes on an apocalypse you can find.

Developed by Arbitrary Metric, Roman Sands RE: Build puts players in a tropical resort where things initially seem almost suspiciously relaxing. After washing up on its beach, you're quickly treated as an employee and expected to perform various duties. The guests have demands, the resort has rules and your mysterious new workplace has plenty of secrets waiting to be uncovered. There is just one tiny problem: the world is ending.

Instead of immediately turning the game into a conventional survival horror experience, Roman Sands RE: Build makes the impending apocalypse part of its bizarre backdrop. You'll complete tasks for guests, interact with strange characters and explore the resort while gradually discovering that something is very wrong beneath its sunny exterior. The game's unusual combination of everyday responsibilities and existential catastrophe is one of its most distinctive features. You can be worrying about completing a resort task one minute and investigating a disturbing mystery the next. It's essentially customer service with the end of civilization added to the job description.

The gameplay becomes considerably darker when Roman Sands RE: Build takes you to its second major setting: a decaying zoological research facility. Here, the colourful resort is replaced by a much more threatening environment where survival becomes the immediate priority. You play as one of the last survivors and must explore the facility, investigate its secrets and deal with a mysterious biological threat. As you explore the location you will make strange discoveries about unsettling experiments that will raise considerably more questions than answers.

The resort and research facility might initially look like completely different games, but they are connected by a larger mystery. Players must examine both sides of the story and gradually piece together how these strange realities fit together.

Rather than simply following a linear horror formula, the game uses its unusual mechanics to make the player question what is real and what isn't. Its characters, environments and events frequently take unexpected turns, making curiosity one of your most important survival tools.

What's new in the latest patch?

The latest Roman Sands RE: Build patch focuses primarily on fixing bugs that could interfere with progression. Because dialogue and character interactions are such an important part of the game's structure, several of the fixes target situations where conversations could cause softlocks. The update improves dialogue error handling, allowing conversations to exit correctly when something goes wrong. Localization failures have also received attention, with certain errors now able to fall back to displaying the affected localization key rather than preventing the game from progressing.everal specific progression bugs have also been fixed. These include an issue involving duplicate Ideals, a situation that could leave Kara stuck depending on the player's puzzle and NPC-task progression, and a problem with Betty's drink request dialogue during Act 1.

Patch #1 also addresses an interaction UI softlock caused by failed localization lookups. Another bug that could make dialogue disappear during Betty's conversation about speaking with the manager has also been resolved. Players completing the resort's daily activities should benefit from another fix involving the spa-trash tasks. Previously, completing these objectives across multiple days could cause them to become impossible to finish correctly.

With its surreal gameplay, unusual narrative structure and increasingly strange mysteries, Roman Sands RE: Build offers an apocalypse that refuses to behave like a traditional survival game. The latest patch makes the experience more stable by fixing several progression blockers and adding accessibility options, ensuring that players can focus on solving the game's mysteries rather than fighting its bugs.

C'est assez sympa et surtout original. Se retrouver à travailler dans un hôtel de luxe pendant une apocalypse, c’est pas quelque chose qu’on ne voit pas souvent. J’aime bien l’idée de mélanger les énigmes, l’exploration et la survie
It's quite fun and, above all, original. Finding yourself working in a luxury hotel during an apocalypse isn't something you see every day. I like the idea of mixing puzzles, exploration, and survival.

It's always difficult to know what to expect with this kind of announcement. On paper, it looks quite promising, but I tend to wait to see the result firsthand before getting too excited. In any case, it's clearly worth keeping an eye on.

Hay algunas buenas ideas en todo esto. Como suele suceder, una vez que los jugadores están en sus manos se puede juzgar el valor de estos cambios. Por el momento, soy bastante curioso.
There are some good ideas in all of this. As is often the case, once the players have their hands, the value of these changes can be judged. For now, I'm quite curious.
