Resident Evil 4 Remake introduces The Brute, a new creature

As part of its pre-release coverage of Resident Evil 4 Remake, Game Informer released a new video focusing on the creatures players will encounter. Amid updated versions of old enemies, the horror adventure will also feature the new figure, The Brute, a giant creature carrying a large hammer and wearing a cow mask.

According to Capcom, the need to create new enemies is because the game will be something other than a mere recreation of the original one. While the elements seen in the classic version will be maintained, the company wanted to take the opportunity to expand its universe and add some surprises.

The Brute was created from a gameplay improvement standpoint

The art director of Resident Evil 4 Remake, Hirofumi Nakaoka, explains that The Brute was not put in the game just because they wanted to create new enemies. Initially, they thought about changing the Chainsaw Villager, making him taller or more muscular. But they noticed that what made him scary was that he was an ordinary man but wearing a cowl and an insanely dangerous chainsaw. That was the line they wanted to preserve in monster design. However, soon after, the director kind of contradicted himself. The video introduced The Brute, a tall and muscular character.

Nakaoka says that The Brute was created to fill gaps in the game. He explains that Capcom felt the adventure lacked a more robust, tougher type of enemy that could enrich its gameplay and challenges. "We didn't just make a new character because we wanted a new character," he explains. The exciting thing about The Brute is that he can offer a fresh perspective to players, especially veterans who know Resident Evil 4 inside out.

The art director also explained that the creature's look was developed from a desire to dig deeper into the Los Illuminados religion. The intention was to explore more of the brutal and scary side that cult devotees can follow, which resulted in a monster similar to the Minotaur.

The remake of Resident Evil 4 also promises to bring changes to Ashley's control dynamics and has completely removed the QTEs from the original game. With versions confirmed for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, the game hits stores on March 24 this year.
