REPLACED Launch Now Set for Spring 2026 on PC and Xbox Series X|S

The highly anticipated sci-fi action platformer REPLACED has been officially delayed, with developer Sad Cat Studios and publisher Thunderful Games announcing a new release window for Spring 2026 on PC and Xbox Series X/S. The game was originally planned for a 2025 launch, but the teams confirmed that more time is needed to polish the experience before it reaches players.

A long development

In a recent development update video, the team provided fans with behind-the-scenes insights into the game's progress. Game Director Yura Zhdanovich addressed the delay directly, saying, “We know that our community is incredibly excited to play REPLACED, and it's no secret that it's taken longer than we initially thought to deliver that to you all — we apologize for that.”

REPLACED was first revealed at E3 2021 and is set in a dystopian, alternate version of 1980s America. Players take control of R.E.A.C.H. (Research Engine for Altering and Composing Humans), an artificial intelligence trapped inside a human body, as they navigate a world filled with platforming challenges, environmental puzzles, and fast-paced combat. The game’s unique 2.5D perspective allows movement into both the foreground and background, creating a dynamic gameplay experience.

The delay has also raised questions about the Xbox One version of the game. While the original announcement included Xbox One as a platform, recent updates have only mentioned PC and Xbox Series X/S. No official confirmation has been provided regarding the possible cancellation of the Xbox One release.

Despite the setback, the development team remains optimistic. Zhdanovich added, “The good news is that we now are very close to finishing production, and REPLACED will be coming to PC and Xbox Series X/S in spring 2026.” Fans can also look forward to the game being available on Xbox Game Pass on day one, along with a final trailer expected later this year.
