Why Realm of Ink should be on every roguelite fan’s radar
Realm of Ink is the kind of roguelite that pulls you in with the art first, then keeps you there because the runs actually have bite. On the surface, it has that gorgeous Chinese ink-painting look, all flowing lines, fantasy creatures, and storybook atmosphere. But once the fighting starts, it is very much a fast action roguelite where you are dodging, slashing, stacking upgrades, and trying to survive just long enough to see your build become completely unfair.
Red is fighting against her own written fate
You play as Red, a swordswoman caught inside a world where fate has already been written for her. That gives the game a cool setup, because every run feels like another attempt to tear the page apart and escape the story. It is not just a random dungeon crawler with pretty backgrounds. The whole book-and-ink idea is baked into the mood of the game, from the enemies to the way the world feels like it was painted around you.
Of course, the easy comparison is Hades. If you like jumping into run after run, picking upgrades, learning enemy patterns, and slowly getting better while the game keeps throwing new problems at you, then Realm of Ink is definitely in that lane. But it does enough to avoid feeling like a simple copy. The Chinese fantasy setting gives it its own identity, and the build system has that lovely roguelite madness where one small choice can suddenly turn into a monster combo a few rooms later.
The real standout, though, is Momo. This little Ink Pet is not just there to look cute next to Red. Momo fights alongside you and changes depending on the Ink Gems you equip, which means your companion becomes part of the build instead of just background decoration. That is a smart touch. Sometimes Momo feels like extra support, sometimes it feels like the thing carrying the entire run, and when the right setup clicks, the screen can get wonderfully chaotic.
Between the weapons, artifacts, forms, and Momo’s transformations, Realm of Ink has plenty for roguelite fans to chew on. It is stylish, quick, and satisfying in that dangerous “one more run” way.
