Ninja Gaiden 4 is almost finished

After nearly a decade of waiting, the legendary Ninja Gaiden series is finally making a return. Ninja Gaiden 4 is currently in development by Team Ninja in collaboration with PlatinumGames. The announcement at Xbox Developer Direct 2025 confirmed that the game is set to release in Fall 2025, marking the franchise’s first new mainline entry since Ninja Gaiden 3 in 2012. Fans were stunned by the reveal, which was accompanied by an unexpected remaster of Ninja Gaiden 2 Black, shadow-dropped recently.

The remastered Ninja Gaiden 2 Black is now available on Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC, and has also been added to Xbox Game Pass.
 

A New Protagonist and a Familiar Rival
 

Ninja Gaiden 4 introduces a brand-new protagonist, Yakumo, set in a futuristic Tokyo plagued by an ancient curse. The game will see Yakumo clash with the legendary Ryu Hayabusa, setting the stage for an intense and dramatic storyline. Based on the reveal trailer, the franchise’s signature fast-paced action combat remains at the heart of Ninja Gaiden 4, and longtime fans are eagerly anticipating its release.

Just days after the game’s reveal, Xbox News provided insight into the progress of its development. Near the end of the post, producer Yuji Nakao shared an exciting update on the game’s status, revealing that Ninja Gaiden 4 is "about 70–80% complete" and has now entered the polishing phase.

"The game is currently about 70–80% complete, and we’ve entered the polishing phase. We’ll continue to work closely with Team Ninja, ensuring every detail meets the expectations of fans. There’s more information coming that will help you understand just how fun and exciting this game is, so please stay tuned."

With the game in its final development stage, fans of this beloved franchise can expect Ninja Gaiden 4 to launch sooner rather than later.
