Larian confirms Baldur's Gate III release on Xbox for 2023

Larian wants to launch Baldur's Gate III on Xbox consoles as soon as possible. the huge success of the game is bound to have repercussions, especially for those studios willing to launch an RPG adventure in the future. From storytelling to player freedom, the latest installment in the iconic RPG series surpasses all expectations, and launching the game on Microsoft's consoles will grant the studio a good chunk of money. Unfortunately, developing an Xbox port for Baldur's Gate III has proven to be more complicated than expected.

A few weeks ago, Larian acknowledged that creating the Xbox Series X version of Baldur's Gate III didn´t pose a big problem for them, but the version for Xbox Series S was a completely different thing. Meeting Microsoft's requirements for this version was overly complicated due to the split-screen co-op mode and it could delay the release of both versions for a long while. But it turns out that the numbers achieved by Baldur's Gate III on PC have forced Microsoft to reconsider its position. Both parts have come to an agreement to launch the game this year on Xbox consoles.

Larian Studios CEO and founder, Swen Vincke confirmed the news via Twitter.

"Super happy to confirm that after meeting yesterday, we’ve found a solution that allows us to bring Baldur’s Gate 3 to Xbox players this year, something we’ve been working towards for quite some time."

"All improvements will be there, with split-screen coop on Series X. Series S will not feature split-screen coop, but will also include cross-save progression between Steam and Xbox Series."

With the release of Baldur's Gate III for PlayStation 5 around the corner, they had to work out something to avoid missing the hype train. Xbox players will be playing the game sooner than they expected, and the best prices to get a Baldur's Gate III Xbox key will be at our comparator before that happens.
