Japan Top 100 Video Games of All Time

TV Asahi from Japan conducted a poll of 50,000 people about the best game of all time. Popularly named Japan Top 100 Video Games of All Time, the list was presented by Japanese gaming personalities. The results were published in Famitsu magazine. You can check out the complete list (in Japanese) on the magazine's website.

In the first place, we have The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild as the best game of all time, according to the Japanese. On the ranking, three franchises stood out: Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, and Pokémon. Combined, these three occupied 30% of the Top 100, each with 10 entries.

Check out the Top 10 of the list and see if these entries are to your liking. Spoiler alert: they probably won't be, but that's the beauty of having a personal opinion.

At a glance, we can spot a multitude of RPGs, a genre that has elevated the Japanese gaming industry to the pantheon. But surprisingly, several games on the list are recent releases, such as Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Another unexpected entry is Apex Legends, a battle royale and one of the few international games. And Undertale, an indie American game that earned the thirteenth spot on the list.
