God of War: Ragnarok Will End Norse Saga

God of War: Ragnarok Will End Norse Saga

Now that we have had a good look at the new God of War: Ragnarok, we have some idea of how the story will go. As the title implies, we will see the Twilight of the Gods. However, a surprise announcement from Santa Monica creative director Cory Barlog tells us that the highly-anticipated sequel to the 2018 God of War will conclude the Norse storyline.

In an interview with Youtube Channel Kaptain Kuba, Barlog states that they don’t want players to wait 15 years to experience an entire trilogy.

“I think one of the most important reasons is the first game took five years, the second game, I don’t know how long it’s going to take but I’m just going to throw out that it’s going to take close to a similar time to do this, right, and then if you think, wow a third one in that same [amount of time], we’re talking like a span of close to 15 years of a single story and I feel like that’s just too stretched out.”

In short, Barlog planned for everything to be completed with the second game. The focus, after all, is on the relationship between two characters: Kratos and Atreus. The entire plot hinges on that father-son element. If too much time occurs between games in development, there’s a danger that players will lose the plot.

This doesn’t mean the end of the God of War franchise; it’s just that this particular part of Kratos's story will come to a close. It's a pity that this compelling story ends after two chapters, but the upside is it does open up God of War to other future storylines in other lands and with other pantheons.
