Fallen Tear: The Ascension Is Now Fully Released on Steam
After roughly six months in Early Access, Fallen Tear: The Ascension has officially launched version 1.0 on Steam as of September 23. Winter Crew Studios' hand-drawn Metroidvania was originally expected to reach this milestone on September 16, but the development team pushed the release back by one week to spend more time on optimization, fixing remaining issues, and testing. The studio explained that the game was already content-complete at that point, but still needed extra time to reach the level of polish it wanted before bringing Hira's full journey to players.
Version 1.0 Delivers a Far More Complete Journey Than Early Access Revealed
Fallen Tear: The Ascension entered Early Access on March 17 with roughly 35% of the complete game, covering the opening act alongside its core combat, progression, and exploration systems. Version 1.0 now carries Hira's story all the way to its conclusion while also opening up multiple endings depending on the player's journey. The world of Raoah has also expanded significantly, rather than simply adding a few more areas onto the existing Early Access content.
According to the official content list released shortly before launch, version 1.0 adds:
- 10 new major regions with interconnected areas to explore.
- 5 main bosses and 16 optional side bosses.
- 11 new Fated Bonds, each bringing their own abilities and story moments.
- 3 Ascensions, 6 Hunter Skills, 4 Elemental Imbuements, and 16 new Tier III–IV Mastery Skills.
The game's combat, progression, and exploration systems have also reached their complete form. Winter Crew estimates that the main journey will take around 35–40 hours depending on playstyle, while players looking to see nearly everything Raoah has to offer could spend more than 80 hours in the game.
But the biggest changes in 1.0 are not limited to the amount of new content. The opening portion of the game has also been reworked considerably, particularly in how players explore the world. Compared with the more restricted and semi-linear progression found in Early Access, Raoah is now more open and gives players greater freedom in choosing where to go. Progression, balance, quests, and several other features have also been adjusted to better fit the structure of the complete game.
This also leaves returning Early Access players with an unusual choice. Existing saves can still be carried over to 1.0, but the studio warns that some older systems and content are no longer fully compatible, potentially leading to progression problems or other unexpected issues later on. Because of this, Winter Crew recommends deleting Early Access saves and starting fresh for anyone who wants to experience the game's new structure as fully and reliably as possible.
Fated Bonds remain at the heart of the experience, connecting the companions Hira meets throughout his journey to both combat and exploration. Their abilities can influence the way players fight while also unlocking new traversal options across the world, while Hira continues to grow through Ascensions, Hunter Skills, Masteries, and a variety of build choices. Combined with hand-drawn 2D animation and JRPG-inspired storytelling, these elements continue to give Fallen Tear: The Ascension its own identity within the Metroidvania genre.
And version 1.0 is not the end of the road. In its launch announcement, the development team confirmed that it will continue monitoring bugs, performance, and balance after release, while work has already begun on a free content update. PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2 versions are also currently in development with a targeted release window of Q2 2027, alongside plans for physical editions.
