Honeycomb: The World Beyond is a different kind of survival adventure
Honeycomb: The World Beyond, an ambitious adventure that combines survival, crafting, and exploration elements, has officially launched, sending players far away from Earth and into the strange, dangerous, and surprisingly beautiful world of Sota7. After a lengthy development journey, the game is finally putting its alien playground in the hands of players.
Sota7 isn't your typical survival-game wasteland. Instead of arriving on a barren planet covered in rocks and wondering how quickly you can build a shack, Honeycomb: The World Beyond is set in a living ecosystem full of unusual creatures, mysterious plants, valuable resources, and plenty of unanswered questions. Exploration is therefore more than simply a way to find materials: it's at the core of the adventure.
In the game, players take control of Hennessy O'Quinn, a bioengineer whose mission on Sota7 could have enormous consequences for humanity. Earth is facing serious environmental problems, and the alien planet may hold biological secrets capable of helping solve them. The catch? Hennessy first has to survive long enough to uncover them.
Survival With a Scientific Twist
Honeycomb: The World Beyond puts a considerable emphasis on experimentation. Players can investigate the local flora and fauna, gather samples and study the properties of alien organisms. Bioengineering plays a central role, allowing players to experiment with life on Sota7 rather than simply harvesting it for crafting materials. This makes the game's survival loop feel somewhat different from the usual formula. Finding a strange plant isn't necessarily about asking whether it can be turned into a wall or a weapon. Instead, players may wonder what it does, what properties it possesses, and whether it can be combined with something else to create something useful.
Of course, scientific curiosity doesn't pay the bills when an alien creature is trying to eat you. Resources still need to be gathered, equipment crafted, and a base constructed to provide a safe place to research and prepare for the next expedition. As players progress, that humble outpost can evolve into a much more sophisticated scientific operation.
Sota7 Is the Real Star
One of the game's biggest selling points is its alien setting. Sota7 is designed to feel like an ecosystem rather than simply a collection of survival-game zones, with different environments, creatures and resources encouraging players to venture further from their starting point. That exploration also comes with risk. The planet's wildlife isn't there purely to provide scenery, and players have to learn which creatures can be approached safely and which ones would rather turn Hennessy into lunch. Knowing the environment can therefore be just as important as having the right equipment.
Developer Frozen Way has also included several ways to tailor the survival experience. Players can choose between different modes depending on how much pressure they want from the game's survival mechanics. Those looking for a more relaxed scientific expedition can approach the game differently from players who want a tougher challenge where mistakes can have much more serious consequences.
The Journey Continues After Launch
The launch is also just the beginning for Honeycomb: The World Beyond. Frozen Way has already released a first hotfix addressing issues reported by players, including crashes and problems that could interfere with progression. The studio keeps monitoring feedback as the community gets deeper into Sota7.
Honeycomb: The World Beyond arrives with a slightly different proposition for survival fans. It wants them to become scientists, explorers and pioneers in an alien world where every new discovery could potentially be more valuable than the resources needed to make it.
After years of waiting, Sota7 is finally open, and if you want to explore it you can use our comparator to find the best deals for Honeycomb: The World Beyond. Also, there is a free demo of the game available via Steam if you want to give it a try before.
