RTX 5060 and 5060 Ti GPUs with 9GB memory reportedly coming soon

According to a new report from Board Channels (via Videocardz), NVIDIA may be preparing to use 3GB GDDR7 memory modules in upcoming graphics cards. With DRAM manufacturers increasing production of these higher-capacity chips, this could lead to new 9GB versions of the RTX 5060 and RTX 5060 Ti.

Earlier plans reportedly involved launching RTX 50 SUPER series GPUs equipped with these 3GB modules, which offer 50% more capacity than the standard 2GB chips. This would have allowed those rumored GPUs to feature significantly more VRAM than their predecessors. However, ongoing memory shortages and rising costs - largely driven by AI-related demand - have made such configurations less practical.

Instead, NVIDIA appears to be adjusting its strategy. By introducing 9GB variants of the RTX 5060 and 5060 Ti, the company can slightly increase VRAM capacity while also making better use of available memory supply. Using three 3GB modules instead of four 2GB ones also helps free up components for other products.

That said, this change comes with trade-offs. Moving from an 8GB configuration on a 128-bit memory bus to a 9GB setup on a 96-bit bus results in reduced memory bandwidth. Even with faster GDDR7 speeds, it may not fully compensate for the narrower bus, which could impact performance in bandwidth-heavy scenarios.

In practice, performance differences will likely depend on the workload. Games that benefit from additional VRAM may run better on the 9GB models, while titles that rely more on memory bandwidth could perform better on the existing 8GB versions. With no other major specification changes expected, overall performance should remain fairly close between the variants.

If these reports are accurate, NVIDIA could release the 9GB RTX 5060 and 5060 Ti models in the near future. While they may not carry the “SUPER” branding, the added memory would still be a meaningful upgrade - though not quite the larger improvements that might have been possible under different market conditions.
