Big Walk Sells 1 Million Copies in Less Than a Week

Big Walk: A Million Copies Is Just the Beginning
Industry

House House has done it again. The studio behind the wonderfully chaotic Untitled Goose Game has another indie hit on its hands, and this time there isn't a mischievous goose in sight. Big Walk has sold more than one million copies in just six days, putting it on a considerably faster sales trajectory than the studio's previous smash hit.

Released on August 4, Big Walk has wasted practically no time making its mark. Publisher Panic confirmed that the cooperative adventure had passed the one-million-copies-sold milestone during its first week, a remarkably quick result for a new IP. Even more impressive, that figure only counts paid copies and does not include downloads through PlayStation Plus.

In other words, there are already more than a million people who have decided that Big Walk is worth paying for, while plenty of additional players have been able to join the journey through Sony's subscription service.

Big Walk is already outpacing Untitled Goose Game

The most interesting part of the announcement is what the milestone means for House House's previous success story. Untitled Goose Game became one of the biggest indie sensations of its generation, eventually selling millions of copies worldwide. However, it took considerably longer to reach its first million sales. It took Untitled Goose Game roughly three months after its September 2019 launch to cross the one-million mark. However, Big Walk has managed to achieve the same milestone in less than a week.

That's quite a leap for House House. The studio has gone from spending months waiting for its troublesome goose to cause enough chaos to sell one million copies to watching Big Walk stroll past that figure almost immediately.

Of course, the comparison comes with an important caveat. Untitled Goose Game launched before the current subscription-heavy gaming landscape, while Big Walk is available through PlayStation Plus. Nevertheless, selling more than one million copies in six days remains a remarkable achievement, particularly for a game that doesn't have the instant meme appeal of an obnoxious goose terrorizing a peaceful village. Despite that, the notoriety of its predecessor may have contributed significantly to the popularity of Big Walk, since players already knew what the studio was capable of.

While Big Walk shares the same playful DNA as Untitled Goose Game, its gameplay is built around a very different idea. Rather than giving players control of a feathered troublemaker, House House invites them to explore a strange open world with friends. The game is designed around cooperative play, with players wandering through its environments, solving puzzles, interacting with objects and discovering increasingly ridiculous ways to entertain themselves. Communication is often just as important as conventional problem-solving, and the game's systems are deliberately built to encourage experimentation.

That makes Big Walk particularly well suited to those wonderfully unpredictable multiplayer moments where nobody quite knows what they're doing, but somehow everyone is having a fantastic time anyway. And that may be one of the secrets behind its rapid success. Like Untitled Goose Game, Big Walk doesn't take itself particularly seriously and creates situations where simply interacting with the world can produce something funny, strange or completely unexpected.

The million-sales milestone gives House House another impressive figure to celebrate, but Big Walk is potentially only getting started. The game has already surpassed Untitled Goose Game's early sales pace by a huge margin, and its actual reach is larger once PlayStation Plus players are taken into account. Whether Big Walk can eventually match or surpass the lifetime sales of Untitled Goose Game remains to be seen. The goose still has a very large lead in total copies sold, after all.

For now, though, House House can enjoy a rather amusing reversal of fortune. Its first hit was about a goose causing problems wherever it went. Its latest hit is about going for a walk with friends. As usual, remember that you can use our comparator to get Big Walk at the cheapest price if you want to jump into this unique experience with your friends
