Star Wars Episode I Racer needs more time to be ready

Star Wars is one of the most long-lived and popular sci-fi licenses. When Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace was launched millions of fans queued at the entrance of the cinemas all over the world to watch it and it was a great success. There are plenty of games inspired by the license and some of the best ones have been released in the last few years. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order or Star Wars Battlefront II are just a couple of good examples but there is also Knights of the Old Republic, a great RPG that is a fan favorite although it's much older. There is one Star Wars game that was a big hit when it was launched and that has nothing to do with Jedis, lightsabers, or combat. Star Wars Episode I:  Racer relives the podracing sequence featured in the film, in which a very young Anakin Skywalker competes against other pilots in frenetic races.

A new version of the game is currently under development by Aspyr Media and it was supposed to be released today on PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch but it seems that this modernized version of the original Star Wars Episode I Racer from 1999 won't be ready in time. The studio has revealed it via a Tweet on its official account.

Star Wars Episode I: Racer will feature enhanced graphics and more than 25 unique pilots that will compete to be the fastest one through a variety of tracks in different worlds. Although the delay is not quite significant since the release is now scheduled for May 26th it's disappointing to know about it just a few hours before the date in which you were expecting to be playing it.

Fortunately, there are plenty of Star Wars games available to the players and you could, for example, give a try to the new gameplay modes and features that have been included in Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order or Star Wars: Battlefront II.
