The Banner Saga is a fantasy RPG in the same vein as Final Fantasy Tactics and Tactics Ogre. The game takes place in a Viking-inspired world teetering on the edge of the Apocalypse. Humans and the giant-like Varl alike are threatened by the supernatural forces: the sun has stopped moving, leaving the world in constant twilight. Even worse, a host of violent rock-like creatures called the Dredge have appeared, sweeping across the land and destroying everything in their path.

As an interactive story, The Banner Saga follows the points of view of several characters, particularly a hunter named Rook and his daughter Alette. Tasked with leading his tribe to safety, Rook must make a perilous trek across hostile lands to the last free city left standing. But the journey will not be easy. Many decisions must be made along the way, and each wrong choice will be paid for in human and Varl lives.
