AYANEO previews upcoming AYANEO 3 handheld, promising next-generation features
A few days ago, AYANEO issued a press announcement filled with elaborate marketing phrases, claiming it's a "revolution in AYANEO's product definition, changing gamers' perceptions of handheld consoles" and asserting that it's "not just a technological advance, but also a totally new concept that hints at future possibilities for handheld devices."
The marketing continues without providing any real specifics on anything of substance. They are certainly making a big deal about this product, suggesting it "represents the new direction of gaming handhelds" and that "the future has arrived." Alright then. Naturally, it will come pre-installed with Windows games, as has been the case with all their previous devices, but it probably won't take long after its launch for support from popular SteamOS alternative Bazzite, which caters to a variety of handheld gaming PCs. AYANEO did attempt Linux once, only to quickly pull back from that.
Though it's not officially announced yet, the standout feature of the AYANEO 3 will likely be its choice of chipset. Historically, the company has opted for AMD in their handheld APUs, so a chip formerly known as Strix Point, the Ryzen 9 AI 300 series CPU, might be a likely candidate, especially as the AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 has already made a positive impression on us. However, it's worth noting that this isn't a significant upgrade over the AYANEO Kun's AMD Ryzen 7 7840U.
That said, AMD isn't the only possibility. AYANEO seems to have a less robust partnership with Intel, offering their chips in a limited selection of handhelds, such as the Air Plus. One exciting possibility for the AYANEO 3 could be the introduction of a Lunar Lake CPU.
As for anything else? Well, their marketing jargon implies there might be a new shell design. Who knows? I suppose we'll learn more soon enough. And as always, while waiting for more exciting news, remember to use our comparison tool to find the best deal for your next favorite game.
