Disappointing. Way too many problems for the return of such a beloved franchise. The controls are bad, the gameplay is repetitive, the graphics are meh and the game is kinda short. At least the story is okay, but it's not enough to make it worth playing.

The worst thing to happen to Legacy of Kain since Square Enix If you've ever had the misfortune of reading the awful comic 'Soul Reaver: The Dead Shall Rise', then there's literally no reason to play Ascendance. It's a direct adaptation (in most cases a page-by-page recreation) of the poorly written comic with nothing new to offer.

Coming face-to-face with Legacy of Kain: Ascendance brought about mixed feelings. After the recent remasters, I was barely concealed by the excitement at the prospect of witnessing the first new chapter in the series in over twenty years. However, nostalgia, as we all know, is a scoundrel, and there were already signs that the project was far from what Legacy of Kain deserved for a revival. A quiet announcement alongside a remaster, an extremely close release, a structure different from what the series was known for. We wanted to be hopeful, and in a certain sense, Ascendance was a pleasant return to the land of Crystal Dynamics vampires. It's a shame, however, that the end result wasn't exactly what all fans were hoping for.

Je suis assez sceptique. La license m'a marqué étant petit mais là, en 2d pixel art, avec plusieurs personnages, j'ai l'impression qu'on va découvrir un truc qui n'a rien à voir avec les jeux de base. Je me trompe peut être mais en tout cas comme ça, de prime abord, je ne suis pas client.

It is a good game with a nice story and also fine graphics. It feels nice and the old feeling is there like it was since before for those kind of games. For me it an ok game. ;)

if u are reading this, u might want to ignore this game and check the "Legacy of Kain Defiance Remastered" instead. for some reason they released both of them on march 2026 but this was made by different devs than every other legacy of kain

As a longtime Legacy of Kain fan, Ascendance hit all the right notes for me. The game feels like a natural continuation rather than a forced reboot. The world is hauntingly beautiful, full of little lore details that reward exploration. Combat is smoother and more tactical than before, and the story dives deep into fate, betrayal, and redemption exactly what this universe needed. It’s great to see the series treated with such care again.

Legacy of Kain: Ascendance, serinin karanlık atmosferini ve hikâye odaklı yapısını modern sistemlerle yeniden sunmayı hedefleyen bir proje izlenimi veriyor. Vampir teması, gotik dünya tasarımı ve karakterler arası çatışmalar yine ön planda olsa da, oynanış tarafında ne kadar yenilik sunacağı henüz net değil. Eğer sadece nostaljiye yaslanırsa sınırlı kalabilir, ancak savaş sistemi ve keşif mekanikleri günümüz standartlarına uyarlanabilirse daha geniş bir kitleye ulaşma potansiyeli var. Şu an için Ascendance, güçlü bir mirasa sahip ama kendini ne kadar güncelleyebileceği merak edilen bir yapım gibi duruyor.

I've been eagerly awaiting this return, but Legacy of Kain: Ascendance leaves me with a taste of unfinished business. On the one hand, it's great to rediscover the unique atmosphere of Nosgoth and the Shakespearean dubbing. Artistically, it's a total success, as dark and majestic as we've come to love it. Gameplay-wise, however, the license still has one foot in the past. The camera is a purge as soon as the space is reduced, and the platforming phases are sometimes ridiculous due to a rigidity that should no longer be seen today. The system of switching between characters is a great idea on paper, but in practice, the back-and-forth in the spectral world ends up breaking the rhythm. You can also sense that the budget wasn't unlimited: the bestiary quickly goes round in circles, and some environments feel a little empty. This is a game for nostalgic fans ready to forgive some dated mechanics, but for others, the pill will be hard to swallow.

I would have liked an up-to-date sequel to this license. Legacy of Kain has never been an overpowering license, but it used to be a nice one. Today, it's a very mixed bag.
