Fight eldritch monsters from beyond the Veil in Othercide, a tactical roguelike RPG that delves into Lovecraftian horror. The Veil that holds our reality together is threatened by monsters from the Suffering. Led by the Chosen One, they will soon consume the world. The only thing that stands in the way of total destruction are the Daughters, great warriors born from the essence of the Mother.

You will fight on a confined isometric map controlling up to three Daughters at once. Each daughter has specialized skills allowing them to use certain weapons, like a sword, a pair of handguns, a shield, or a scythe. You must use each skill strategically to conserve your action points and defeat each type of enemy. Once a Daughter is hurt, they can’t be healed without sacrificing another Daughter.

Othercide features a dynamic timeline system that determines when each unit acts in the turn. Paying attention to who goes first is crucial to achieving victory. A small mistake in tactics can cascade into your forces getting wiped out entirely. Every battle is a strategic dance where you must chain attacks and force enemies into disadvantageous positions in order to achieve victory.

Even if you fail, it’s not the end. You can start a new run in Othercide and keep the skills you gained from leveling the Daughters. You must lead your army through battle, death, and rebirth until the Chosen One is destroyed and the Suffering is no more.

    FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

Can I permanently lose a Soul after it dies in combat?
Yes, Souls are lost permanently if they die during a mission without being resurrected by a resurrection token, or if they are sacrificed.
How does the 'Timeline' mechanic impact my combat decisions?
The Timeline dictates the turn order and allows you to predict enemy actions. Clever use of the timeline allows you to interrupt attacks, set up combos, and optimize your damage output.
What is the relationship between the Souls and the 'Memories' system?
Each Soul has a limited number of Memories. Using them during combat boosts damage, adds special effects, or alters the Timeline. However, using Memories also reduces a Soul's health.
How does the 'Sacrifice' mechanic function, and when should I use it?
Sacrificing a Soul allows you to revive another, or to gain a powerful bonus in combat at the cost of the sacrificed Soul's life. It should be used strategically when you need to make a comeback, or to complete a difficult objective.
What influences the stats and skills a new Soul starts with?
The stats and skills of a new Soul are influenced by the Traits and current level of the Souls used to 'give birth' to it.
How does 'Suffering' impact the Souls' performance?
Suffering is a status effect inflicted on Souls, decreasing their stats, and possibly preventing them from acting in combat. It can be triggered by different conditions, such as taking damage or being adjacent to a dying Soul, and it can be removed using specific skills or items.
How does the 'Era' system affect gameplay progression?
The Era system dictates the enemies you will face, the available weapons, and the overall difficulty of the game. Progressing through an Era unlocks new equipment, skills, and challenges, but also increases the stakes.
Can I choose which skills a Soul learns, or is it random?
Souls learn new skills from 'Teachers' after gaining experience from missions. Each Soul can learn different skills depending on their class, but you have limited control over the skill choices of your Souls.
What are the limitations, if any, on the number of actions a Soul can perform in a single turn?
Souls can typically perform one main action per turn, such as attacking or using a skill. Some skills can chain multiple attacks together, or they can use 'Synergy' abilities that allow a follow up action.
How does 'Synergy' function in combat, and why is it important?
Synergy skills are triggered when a specific set of Souls perform specific actions in the same turn. Using Synergy skills can result in devastating combos and damage, or they can trigger special effects, making the Souls more powerful in battle.
