Imagine living in a small british city where everyone is completely happy. All you have to do is taking your daily dose of Joy, a little pill that make all your problems dissapear and grant you absolute happiness... It's 1964 and World War II has ended with Nazis losing control of Germany, which then reformed to the German Empire. The Empire managed to win the war and occupied Great Britain. The small island city of Wellington Wells has suffered like any other during occupation, and their inhabitants were forced to commit certain atrocities that they will never forgive. In an attempt of forgetting their past they created a hallucinogen drug, called Joy, that makes them forget all their unhappy memories. The only problem is that it also removes their ability to recognize moral consequences. As a result, the place transforms into a kind of dystopian society, where those who refuse the drug are violently forced to consume it. We Happy Few is a psychological horror adventure that featues a procedurally generated world that makes every game unique. You will have to learn how to interact with the other memebers of your society, and adapt chosing combat, conformity or stealth if you want to survive and escape from this mad, mad world.

FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

: How does the 'mask' mechanic influence player interaction and environmental navigation, and what are the consequences of wearing or removing it in different social contexts within Wellington Wells?
The mask in We Happy Few is a crucial social lubricant. Wearing it signals that you are a compliant 'Wellie,' allowing you to blend in with the happy populace and access areas that would otherwise be hostile. However, it also obscures your face, preventing genuine interaction and potentially hindering quests that require recognition. Removing it instantly marks you as a 'Downer,' triggering immediate aggression from most citizens and security forces. Players must strategically decide when to mask up to survive daily life and when to unmask to pursue their true objectives, often leading to tense stealth sequences or desperate chases.; Explain the 'Joy' system: how is it acquired, what are its effects on the player character and the world, and how does abstaining from Joy change the gameplay experience and narrative perception?
Joy is a potent, happiness-inducing drug that is central to Wellington Wells's oppressive utopia. Players can acquire Joy by finding it in the environment or through specific quests. While under the influence of Joy, the world appears vibrant and cheerful, citizens are friendly, and security is lax. However, the player character suffers negative side effects such as impaired vision, slower movement, and reduced combat effectiveness. Abstaining from Joy, or 'going Downer,' makes the world appear grim and dangerous, with hostile citizens and constant threats. This is essential for uncovering the dark truths of the society and for completing certain objectives that require clear-headedness and the ability to perceive the world as it truly is, but at the cost of constant danger and social ostracization.
