R.E.P.O October update introduces tumble-grab mechanic
R.E.P.O has already earned a reputation as one of 2025’s funniest yet scariest co-op horror games, but developer Semiwork is about to crank up the chaos even further. The studio has confirmed that the upcoming Monster Update, arriving October 30, will introduce a new “tumble-grab” mechanic that could completely change how players survive against its terrifying creatures.
For those new to R.E.P.O, the game lets up to six players scavenge for valuables while dodging monsters like the deceptively cute yet deadly Apex Predator duckling. At launch, its quirky physics and unpredictable horror quickly made it a Steam hit, and Semiwork has kept that momentum going with steady updates. The tumble-grab feature, however, might be the game’s biggest shake-up yet.
Tumble-Grab Expands Both Survival and Mobility
The tumble-grab mechanic allows players to latch onto weapons, items, and even level geometry while tumbling. That means if a monster like the dreaded Mentalist lifts you into the air with its telekinesis, you’re no longer helpless — you can grab a shotgun mid-flight and blast your way out. It also enables wall and ceiling climbing by grabbing surfaces when your screen’s red outlines turn yellow, though a stamina bar prevents the ability from getting out of hand.
Of course, this wouldn’t be R.E.P.O without some absurd fun. In a video update, Semiwork’s devs gleefully demonstrated that you can slam your physics-driven body against enemies repeatedly — essentially “twerking them to death.” While intended as a playful test, fans immediately latched onto the silliness, joking that this might be the true “game-breaking” part of the update.
The tumble-grab is just one part of R.E.P.O’s Monster Update, which also adds new monsters, mechanics, and even the ability to talk through your severed head in spectator mode. Whether you’re here for the scares or the butt physics, this Halloween season’s update looks like it’ll deliver.
