The Sims 4 has a new type of DLC
After gamers were disappointed last year with The Sims 4 developers for the gift they handed out to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the franchise, they have made amends and surpassed expectations with 2021's celebration. Indeed, the jacuzzi offered to the players last year was part of the Spa Day game pack, and those who already paid for the item felt offended. This year, the players have been spoiled with 21 new items for the Create a Sim and Build modes. They have been designed by some of the most recognized content creators in the community such as HeyHarrie, Peacemaker, or even Grimcookies. But there are more surprises waiting for in The Sims 4.
The information was leaked a few days ago, but Maxis made it official during yesterday's livestream: The Sims 4 will soon receive a new type of DLC. There were three of them until now. Expansion packs, which are color coded in light blue, the Game Packs which are dark blue, and finally the Stuff Packs, which appear in green. This new type of pack is simply called “Kit”. They are smaller than Stuff Packs and offer a modest amount of content for a fairly low price. They will focus on one aspect of the game in particular, like the create a sim mode, the buy/build mode, or the gameplay.
To launch this new type of DLC, there are three kits, already available, each focusing on one of the aspects mentioned. The Throwback Fit Kit offers you twenty pieces of clothing and accessories to give your sims a colorful sportswear look, straight from the 90s. The Country Kitchen Kit comes with a brand new set of kitchen furniture, including floor and wallpaper, as well as several decorative items. Finally, the Bust the Dust Kit only contains five items, all of them vacuum cleaners, but they will be a total novelty in terms of gameplay. The homes of your Sims will now get dusty if you don't vacuum enough, and dust bunnies, which you can tame if you wish, will appear. It also comes with two new aspirations.
Kits for The Sims 4 should be released on a regular basis, about once a month, which is a good opportunity if you want to get some very specific content at a low cost.
