Nintendo Switch 2 players are finally getting Oblivion Remastered
The gates of Cyrodiil are opening again, and this time they are going portable. Bethesda has officially announced that The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered is coming to Nintendo Switch 2 on August 11, giving Nintendo players the chance to step into one of the most beloved RPGs ever made with a shiny new coat of paint, refined gameplay, and the full adventure packed in.
For a lot of players, this is the kind of announcement that hits right in the nostalgia bar. Oblivion is not just “that old Elder Scrolls before Skyrim.” It is the game that gave us dramatic guild questlines, cursed portals, weird NPC conversations, accidental chaos, and enough fantasy wandering to make you lose track of real life for a few evenings. The remaster already brought that magic back to Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC, and it clearly found an audience fast. On Steam alone, the game reached a massive peak of more than 216,000 concurrent players, which is pretty wild for a remaster of a 2006 RPG.
That success makes the Switch 2 launch feel like a big second wave rather than a simple port. Oblivion has always been a great “one more quest” game, and the idea of playing it in handheld mode is dangerous in the best possible way. You sit down for ten minutes, clear one cave, sell some loot, then suddenly it is 2 AM and you are arguing with a Daedric prince. Classic Elder Scrolls behavior.
The big question: Can Switch 2 smooth out the adventure?
Still, the remaster has not been flawless. Performance issues, crashes, stutters, and general technical rough edges have held some players back from jumping in, especially on PC. Even with the strong launch numbers and plenty of love from fans, that technical baggage is still part of the conversation. For the Switch 2 version, the big hope is simple: give players the Oblivion experience without making them fight the frame rate as much as the Oblivion gates.
And of course, this all brings back the same question Elder Scrolls fans have been asking for years: when are we finally getting the next proper Elder Scrolls game? Oblivion Remastered is a great return trip, but the hunger for The Elder Scrolls VI is still very real.
