The Dead Space series seems to be finished
Despite a rather slow start in sales, Dead Space, the adventure created by Glen Schofield and Visceral Games in 2008, gained momentum and eventually became a cult classic of the survival horror genre. The unique approach of the studio at gameplay resulted in an immersive adventure that caught the eye of many fans over time. Following the endeavours of Isaac Clarke as he explored a derelict USG Ishimura spaceship isolated in the far reaches of space and fought fearsome Necromorphs was an unforgettable experience- Schofield then moved on to Sledgehammer Games, which released several Call of Duty titles, including Modern Warfare 3, Advanced Warfare, and WWII. But Dead Space was still popular enough for two sequels, Dead Space 2 and Dead Space 3, to be released alongside several expansions.
Dead Space 4 is a no-go
The possible return of the series with Dead Space 4 has been in the rumour mill for a while. However, the closest thing to such an event that we have seen was the release of The Callisto Protocol. Despite the latest title created by Glen Schofield and his new studio generating great hype, the result was rather underwhelming as the game somewhat missed its mark and rapidly disappeared from the radar. Now, the release of Dead Space 4 seems to be farther away than ever as revealed by Schofield in a recent interview. His proposal to EA was rapidly denied by the publisher.
"We're talking this year. Well, we didn't go too deep. They just said we're not interested right now, we know who to talk to. We didn't talk it any further, and we respect their opinion. They know their numbers and what they have to ship."
Electronic Arts doesn't seem to be interested in prolonging the Dead Space series' life. We don't know if Schofield will look for other options or if its even possible, but given his track of results with Striking Distance Studios he may need a bit of luck to succeed in developing Dead Space 4.
In any case, the lack of Dead Space 4 does not make the series any worse. If you are looking for an immersive survival horror experience set in the depths of space our comparator can provide you with the best deals to get all the games and DLC in the Dead Space series. We highly recommend you try the Dead Space remake from 2023 if you are going to give it a try as it features modern graphics and delivers a significantly better experience than the original in many fields.
