Street Fighter 6 tournament will have $2M prize pool

Capcom has just made the Street Fighter 6 hype even more real. They have just announced that the next Street Fighter 6 tournament will have a total of $2 million dollars prize pool, with the first placer getting a whopping $1 million.

Who said playing video games isn't profitable?

In contrast, the 2022 Capcom Pro Tour’s prize pool was worth only $300,000. It seems Capcom is truly throwing its weight behind esports and Street Fighter 6 in particular.

Doubtless, some of you out there are waiting to get good at Street Fighter 6 to get a chance at that prize money. To lay out the timeline, SF6 comes out on June 2 this year. This year’s Capcom Pro tour is expected to launch shortly after, with the championship event coming sometime in February 2024. What’s more, Capcom is planning to have its circuit operating in both online and offline competitions with its World Warrior program. This program is a regional tournament where each region has five events that lead to a final that will have eight qualifiers face off for the season-ending tournament.

Early on, we learned Street Fighter 6 is going to be a different beast. New characters featured are Kimberly, Jamie, Manon, Marisa, Lily, and JP. Returning characters include Juri and Luke, who appears to be the central character in the story arc. Players will be able to explore the Metro City hub world and even talk to the NPCs there. What’s more, Street Fighter 6 will be released on a wider range of platforms this time, namely, PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. This means we can expect a lot more players to join the competition.
