iRacing Studios is working hard on NASCAR 26
iRacing Studios NASCAR 26 has barely crossed the finish line of its launch window, yet the development team has released a substantial list of fixes throughout the last few days. Following the three-day Early Access period for Gold Edition owners, The full release of the game arrived on September 18, following the Early Access period for Gold Edition owners. Since then, multiple patches have already improved AI behaviour and fixed Career Mode crashes, wheels, multiplayer and other technical issues.
The developers of the game have reacted quite fast to the game's problems, and this has improved the game experience significantly. NASCAR 26 is more ambitious than its predecessor. The game aims to become an accessible racing experience sitting between hardcore simulation and arcade racing, while still borrowing technology and assets from the iRacing ecosystem. Players can compete across the NASCAR Cup Series, O'Reilly Auto Parts Series, Craftsman Truck Series and ARCA Menards Series, with a variety of gameplay modes available, including Career, Quick Race, Championship and Multiplayer, alongside the new standalone Chase mode.
iRacing Studios NASCAR 26 features the new Dynamic Track technology. Instead of treating a circuit as a static piece of scenery, the track conditions and rubber buildup evolve during a race weekend. This changes how drivers approach a circuit and forces them to adapt as the race progresses. The game also introduces cross-platform multiplayer, an enhanced driving model, revised tyre and braking behaviour, improved Force Feedback calibration, new tracks and a Peak Performance training mode.
A busy first week for NASCAR 26
The state of iRacing Studios NASCAR 26 wasn't good enough at launch, but iRacing Studios has focused on improving the experience and fixing problems since the game was accessible in Early Access on September 15. The first patch addressed several gameplay and technical problems, including driver ratings, AI pit-road logic, and AI behaviour during stage-ending pit stops. It also made adjustments to road-course cutting boundaries and fixed a Career Mode crash and an issue where offline settings could sometimes carry over into online sessions.
In the September 16 update, iRacing Studios adjusted the sun position at Chicagoland, improved the accuracy of the Estimated AI Rating in Peak Performance and fixed wheel vibration and several shuttering issues. Another sizeable patch arrived on September 17. This one dealt with crashes when resuming multi-series Career races and after receiving "Breaking News", corrected multiplayer lobby information and fixed a problem affecting some wheels. Several Career Mode interface issues were also cleaned up, and a hitch affecting cars leaving pit road was also addressed. The September 18 patch was smaller, but its focus is revealing. iRacing Studios tuned the AI Skill Range slider, changed the default maximum size of All Tracks multiplayer lobbies and corrected Best Lap information in online sessions.
Better than NASCAR 25, but still unfinished in places
The contrast between its strong foundation and its remaining rough edges mark the relase of iRacing Studios NASCAR 26. The game offers a complete NASCAR experience that surpasses the one players could enjoy in NASCAR 25 with four major series, Dynamic Track technology, new circuits, cross-play, The Chase, an improved presentation and better AI. However, the game experience has needed some polish to get it to the desired level. And we are not talking about a situation where iRacing Studios has transformed the game to adapt it following the requests of the community. It's just pure performance fixing.
That is an important distinction. If the objective was to eliminate the most immediate launch problems, the rapid sequence of patches is already making a difference. Crashes, multiplayer information problems, wheel bugs, Career Mode issues and several AI behaviours have received direct attention. However, if the final objective is to address the concerns raised in reviews and the feedback from the players, it's too early to say that teh work is finished. The latest updates are only focused on corrections and tuning the experience
For now, iRacing Studios NASCAR 26 looks less like a finished product receiving optional polish and more like a promising racing game being actively refined while its first season is already underway. In any case, iRacing Studios seems to be committed to making the game the type of experience they envisioned, even though it may take a bit longer than expected.
