GeForce RTX 4060 has emerged as the most popular GPU among Steam users
Valve has released new statistics for gamers and developers to examine. The results of the Steam Hardware and Software Survey for February 2025 have been published, offering a detailed insight into the top hardware and software choices among PC gamers.
Participation in the survey is voluntary, and Valve randomly selects participants. The primary aim of the survey is to offer platform-wide data to assist Valve and developers in making informed decisions regarding technology investments, game enhancements, and more. Additionally, it provides insight into the performance of different Windows versions among PC gaming enthusiasts.
On the hardware front, Intel processors are still the favored option. A total of 68.89% of respondents reported that they use Intel chips in their PCs. AMD holds a 31.07% share, while Microsoft’s own chips account for 0.05%. Regarding graphics cards, 83.07% of users have Nvidia GPUs, 11.49% have AMD GPUs, and 5.21% have Intel GPUs. The most widely used graphics card on Steam is the Nvidia RTX 4060, which has taken the lead over the RTX 3060 and now represents 8.37%.

In a surprising turn, Valve has indicated that the number of users on Windows 11 significantly decreased in February 2025. Its share fell to 44.10%, representing a decline of 9.36 points (still above Windows 11's overall market share). Conversely, Windows 10 saw an increase of 10.47 points, bringing its share up to 53.34%. While most recent Steam versions are no longer compatible with it, Windows 7 is still in use, accounting for about 0.10% of all Windows users on Steam who continue to run outdated Steam versions, although this situation may not persist for long.
In total, Windows comprises 97.58% of all Steam users, experiencing a rise of 1.03 points in February 2025. Linux follows with 1.45% (-0.61 points), and macOS holds 0.97% (-0.43 points).
