DayZ Badlands Expansion Is Out Now: Explore Nasdara and Update 1.30
Following the official announcement, DayZ Badlands launched on October 15, bringing survivors to Nasdara, the largest terrain ever created for the game. Set in an arid province where water is scarce and sandstorms can turn a routine loot run into a fight for survival, the expansion adds a new environment with rebuildable structures, regional wildlife, new diseases and hidden underground locations.
The launch also marks the arrival of Update 1.30, which introduces a variety of novelties across all platforms.
Nasdara: A 267 km² Arid Province
Nasdara is the centerpiece of Badlands and the largest terrain Bohemia Interactive has developed for DayZ, covering 267 km². Its landscape combines jagged mountains and expansive desert plains with abandoned oil fields, large evacuation zones and decaying military bases. These locations provide new opportunities for exploration and looting, but the region’s environmental hazards make every expedition a test of preparation.
The map also introduces nearly 5,000 rebuildable structures, including houses, wells and irrigation tunnels. These features give base-building a more substantial role in the new environment. Survivors can restore buildings for shelter, repair wells to secure access to water or work with other players on infrastructure that benefits an entire server. Rebuildable locations can also become tactical assets, with hidden entrances and fortified positions offering new possibilities for PvP encounters.
For players ready to explore the new region, the DayZ Badlands expansion adds Nasdara and its associated survival challenges to the game.
Update 1.30: Motorbikes, Ragdoll Physics and a Full Wipe
Badlands is not the only reason to revisit DayZ. Update 1.30 brings several changes to the base game, most notably the introduction of motorbikes. The Jana 50 and Bitrak 682 provide new ways to travel across the map, with the latter supporting additional shield attachments. Their arrival expands the options for moving between settlements and searching for supplies, although vehicle handling and collisions remain important considerations in a game where a single mistake can be costly.
The update also brings improvements to gameplay presentation and quality of life. Inventory icons have been redesigned for greater consistency and legibility, while selected firearms receive new color variants and updated visuals. Additional actions, including washing the face and wetting clothing, complement the survival-focused changes.
There is one major catch for returning veterans: Update 1.30 includes a full wipe across all platforms. Characters and server progress must start again, creating a fresh competitive landscape. For players who have been away for a while, that reset offers a natural opportunity to return alongside the Badlands launch.
New Threats: Sandstorms, Heatstroke and Silicosis
Nasdara changes the survival meta of the game by making the environment a more immediate threat. Water is scarce, temperatures can become dangerous, and sandstorms expose players to hazards that cannot simply be solved by finding better weapons. Heatstroke, silicosis and irritated eyes add new medical concerns, forcing survivors to consider exposure and protection as carefully as ammunition and food.
Preparation is therefore essential. Face wraps and dust goggles help players adapt to the dusty conditions, while lightweight clothing and desert camouflage suit the region. Water has additional importance because it is needed not only for hydration but also to cool down and rinse sand from irritated eyes after a storm. Finding reliable water sources and planning routes around them could make the difference between a successful expedition and a fatal detour.
The region also has its own wildlife and equipment. Mouflons, desert monitors and territorial dogs join the infected as potential dangers, while weapons such as the Lee-Enfield, Luger, SCR16 and MP-18 expand the available arsenal. New regional supplies, clothing and survival items help distinguish Nasdara from previous maps.
The Hot & Cool Bundle with Frostline
Players who want to expand their survival options beyond Nasdara can also consider the Hot & Cool Bundle, which combines Badlands with the DayZ Frostline expansion. The two add-ons offer contrasting environments: Badlands focuses on heat, sandstorms and water scarcity, while Frostline takes survivors into the freezing conditions of Sakhal.
For existing owners of the base game, the bundle provides a way to acquire both expansions together rather than purchasing them separately. The choice ultimately depends on how much new terrain you want to explore. You can check the price of the DayZ Frostline expansion alongside Badlands to find the option that best fits your collection.
Hotfix Patch 1 (Console 1.87)
Bohemia Interactive released Patch 1 for Update 1.30 on October 21, addressing a range of issues reported after the Badlands launch. The console release is identified as version 1.87, while the corresponding PC stable build is listed as version 1.30.164200. Several fixes directly affect Nasdara. Infected and animals had trouble navigating rebuildable structures, while incorrect road layouts, collision problems and misplaced environmental objects could interfere with exploration.
The update also corrects misconfigured motorbike headlights, restores the sound produced when dogs are hit and fixes an issue that caused water in irrigation tunnels to give characters cholera. The wider fixes target motorbike physics and general interactions. Bikes could previously be launched into the air after colliding with small objects or crossing certain bridges. Other corrections address camera positioning, thrown items passing through thin walls, an incorrect priority for the face-washing action over drinking, and an exploit that allowed interactions at any distance. A server crash was also resolved.
Where to Find the Best Deals for DayZ
DayZ Badlands gives veterans a fresh reason to return while offering newcomers another way to experience the survival sandbox. Nasdara’s 267 km² terrain, rebuildable infrastructure and environmental hazards change the priorities of exploration, while Update 1.30 brings motorbikes and a clean slate for the wider community. The October hotfix also shows that post-launch refinement is already underway.
