Darkest Dungeon II will enter Early Access next year

Developer Red Hook Studio has been completely silent after the announcement of Darkest Dungeon II. Most of the fans of roguelike games already know that Darkest Dungeon is a very popular turn-based role-playing game that has delighted players since 2016 with a very challenging approach to gothic horror and dungeon crawling. Its sequel was announced last year with a small teaser that did not reveal barely anything about the game and the huge community of Darkest Dungeon players has been waiting for news since then. Well, they have finally arrived in the form of another video and a blog post on the official website of the game that finally unveil some details about Darkest Dungeon II.

According to the official post, Darkest Dungeon II is coming in 2021, but it may arrive in a way that, although it may not be so unexpected by some players, it sill surely be an annoyance for some others. The game will enter Early Access at some point next year, not on Steam but on Epic Games Store. Nothing has been said about if it will be exclusive to the same store when its final version is released, but it is quite likely to happen. Despite this unpleasant surprise for all the fans of Darkest Dungeon that were eagerly waiting to play its sequel on Steam, Darkest Dungeon II will probably have quite a bright future considering the additional information about the game provided by Red Hook Studio:

Our familiar companions band together for another journey into oblivion – this time in stylized 3d!  In fact, this teaser was captured straight out of Unity, and uses the in-game character models and rendering techniques from the game itself.  With a refined combat system and a whole new metagame, Darkest Dungeon II is packed with fresh monsters, bosses, and challenges.

It is yet to be seen how those changes will affect the gameplay but we are sure that there is a big number of fans that will try Darkest Dungeon II when it enters Early Access next year no matter what. We can't wait to do it!
