Cyberpunk 2077 slowly recovers from the worst launch ever
CD Projekt Red's reputation as an accomplished developer has suffered a lot with Cyberpunk 2077. It's not that the expectation about the game was too high at the time of the launch; that's a normal thing after an impressive marketing campaign and a long time waiting for it. The main problem was that the performance of the game was not even remotely what it should have been, especially for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions. Players felt disappointed and voiced it out, the developer had to postpone the plans to release the announced post-launch content for Cyberpunk 2077 to focus on fixing bugs and improving performance, and everything went awry. What should have been one of the most successful games of all time ended somehow becoming a meme of itself.
Even though the studio was fast to apologize for the trouble, it didn't solve much. Fortunately, the developers were set on making Cyberpunk 2077 the game it should have been at launch, and it seems that their efforts are finally bearing some fruits. The game had a massive number of negative reviews on Steam, but that is starting to change. Newer ones are mainly positive, and they have been increasing over the last months. Steam's Autumn Sale may have to do something with it, as the game was offered with a juicy discount and many players decided to give it a try. Cyberpunk 2077 has skyrocketed to the top of the top global sellers on Valve's platform too.
It seems that Cyberpunk 2077 is slowly reaching the place where it should have been all the time. After all, it's one of the most anticipated games of all time, and it offers a thrilling gameplay experience. CD Projekt Red can be happy about this outcome, even if it has taken them a whole year to fix the game. On the players' side, it's quite likely that many would have preferred waiting another year instead of having to deal with all the problems in the game. At least, Cyberpunk 2077's launch may have served as an example of how things shouldn't be done for other developers.
