Carmageddon: Rogue Shift Combines Roguelite Progression and Carnage
The legendary combat racing franchise Carmageddon has a new and exciting entry titled Carmageddon: Rogue Shift.
Why has the combination of "Zombie Sweeping" and "Random Upgrades" become a sensation in early 2026?
The newest chapter of the Carmageddon franchise was launched today, February 6, 2026. The biggest novelty that the game brings to the franchise is its fusion of traditional destructive racing gameplay with modern roguelite elements.
Carmageddon: Rogue Shift is set in the year 2050. The world has become a post-apocalyptic wasteland and humanity must live in skyscrapers to avoid the mutated monsters known as "Wasted" (zombies) that swarm the streets.
Instead of simple lap-based races, Rogue Shift introduces a new structure. Each run is a unique journey with randomly generated maps and events. You will choose your path on a branching map (similar to Slay the Spire or Hades), facing a variety of challenges, survival events, and boss battles.
During runs, you collect credits to purchase weapons and unlock over 80 types of perks (support skills) at pit stops. You must also gather Beatcoins to unlock new cars, new weapons, and permanent stat upgrades for future attempts.
Beyond that, Carmageddon: Rogue Shift features 15 different types of vehicles (ranging from muscle cars and armored trucks to sports cars) and 13 weapons (machine guns, missiles, electric guns...) that can be upgraded, providing players with the exhilarating experience of customizing their own vehicles.
Unlike previous games in the franchise, instead of running over pedestrians to score points you will be mowing down hordes of zombies. Destroying them helps you recover energy and gain a speed boost. At the end of each area, you must face "Giants", massive armored vehicles with enormous health pools and heavy weaponry.
Carmageddon: Rogue Shift is built on Unreal Engine, supporting 4K resolution, 60 fps+ frame rates, and Dolby Atmos sound on next-gen systems, which contribute to offer an exciting experience.
The game does a good job refreshing the franchise. However, some loyal fans might find it a bit unfamiliar, as it focuses heavily on shooting and upgrading skills rather than the "open" and free-roaming destruction characteristic of the 90s originals. If you are a fan of this series or simply looking for a game to relieve stress after a long day at work, Carmageddon: Rogue Shift is a wise choice for you.
